The 2000 Targa 17WT is a wide and roomy, multispecies fishing boat. Over-all fit and finish of boat is average. Checking for loose rigging is done, along with addition of some loctite. The all welded structure does make it a solid, big water craft. Numerous improvements have been made to make it a very likeable boat. The steering system was unacceptable...it took considerable effort to hold the steering wheel due to severe torque steer. The addition of the BayStar hydraulic steering system has made this a much safer, pleasurable craft. The replacement of the Motor Guide trolling motor with the Minn Kota Maxxum, has eliminated the torque steering and made for a more controllable boat. The boat has numerous storage locations that is much appreciated. This is an affordable/comfortable boat that I enjoy using for both long-line trolling, as well as working a shoreline casting for bass.
The Mercury 75 hp 4-Stroke motor is easy to start, smooth running, and very economical. It is however...huge. Big and heavy! Some people have asked me if this was a 175, with the 1 removed! I also have a Yamaha T8 on the transom. Both motors combined, I have nearly 575 pounds on the back. The 93" wide transom supports the weight well.
