Let me give you some tips on how to prevent twists and tangles when using the basic spinning reel. First things first, just cast it out. The first thing you want to do is just stop the line with your hand when the lure hits the water. That way you don't have a lot of extra fishing line coming off the spool when you don't need it.

Second, close the bail by hand. When you close the bail by spinning the reel handle, you put twists in the line every time, so close the bail by hand.

After closing the bail, you want to pull the line taught so it sits in the line roller. Just pull it taught to get some tension going.

Another thing you don't want to do is reel the spinning reel when there is a lot of slack in the line. If there isn't any tension in your line and you are reeling it on to the spool, it's going to create tangles, lumps and twists, and you're going to have problems when you go to make your next cast.

Finally, with spinning reels, it is important that you don't make are really hard, or jerky, cast. When you get a lot of line coming off the spool at once, sometimes that will create a nested tangle that isn't good, so nice smooth casts are the way to go with your basic spinning reel.
