Just a tip for spawning bass
As usual, can be taken with a grain of salt. Our spawn has been pretty weird this year. Our 2 local lakes are well known for producing around late Jan - mid Feb barring the warm fronts. But we went out a couple of weeks ago and I saw a few from the ramp. The game warden was off duty and flipping on a male and I asked him if they were still bedding and he said they flooded the bank in mid Jan to be pushed off pretty quick and the water was just getting back to 62. I asked if he was having any luck and he said he had caught the male several times. And then he proceeded to tell me the tip. I have hooked a few fish on the bed, but never back to back. Anyways, he asked if I had any larger hair jigs and I said no, why, did they introduce small mouth in here thinking sarcastically to myself. He went on to tell me that with rubber, the fish can grip it with their nubs and tote it off, leading to a lot of those empty hooksets. He said the hair is harder to get a hold of so they usually will mouth the whole thing to get it out of the bed. Just some FYI to run on and hear the thoughts of the masses.
