Dale Hollow Reciprocal(Mutual) Water Agreement

Since a portion of Dale Hollow lies within the state of Kentucky, the question has been asked if we would also need a Kentucky fishing license to fish that part of the lake.

Well, here is what the Dale Hollow's Official Tourism website had to say about it. It states that there is a "Reciprocal fishing agreement between Kentucky and Tennessee towards designated waters.

Here's a map of the designated water. The light blue areas on the map were designated as reciprocal(mutual) waters, and a license from either state is valid.

Thanks for the info, Woody.

I have heard that the best place for us to be during early May will be towards the Obey River area. If that's true, we should have no reciprocal water problems at all.

Of course, I don't know where the walleye will be biting...yet.

With its thousands of acres of water and hundreds of acres of weeds, selecting a spot to fish at Dale Hollow can be problematic. With that in mind, Headrick, and nearly every quality guide on the lake, recommends fishing the upper portion of the middle section of the ‘Hollow from May into June.

Upper = North?

or

Upper = inlet creeks and rivers?

btw guys if you plan on fishing it power fishin aint da way to go...dale hollow according to several reliable suspects..is a finesse bait lake the term i keep hearing is 2" craw bait on a 1/0 hook and 8 pound test..look for me to haul a few spinning rods to this one..

That's a good question. I'm sure we'll get to hear the answer to that and allot more, at next year's Seminar.


I'm also hearing reports of having to fish deeper cover when they come off the beds too.

i am hearing tenn is changing a bunch of regs the first of the year.. as of right now there is a slot on dale hollow smallies 16"-20" must be released..now me a 20" smallies will be 5.5 pounds or so...think about that a mintue..bama agreed with me a 6 pound smallie will make the long ride.-to your favorite taxidermist-

You're not kidding there, Zook. If I catch a 6lb Smallmouth, he's definitely going to take up residence on my living room wall.

since my brother is a world class taxidermist who is currantly working for one of the world's best "deer" guys.-kenny gallimore-

thru him i have come to know many of the local taxidermist.. when a world class taxidermist take's there own personal mounts to some one else there is a reason..
one of the best "fish" guys on the east coast is wayne ritch.. yes my bro could do my fish cheaper but no where near as well as wayne can.the man has the "touch" when it comes to fish..a fact that my brother and kenny both acknowlage..

TWRA which is the Tennesse Wildlife Resources Agency put an 18" size limit on all smallmouth statewide making it unlawful to have a smallmouth around abouts 3.5 to 4 pounds in possesion. The first link has information on why the TWRA inplemented the rule no one but tourney fishermen will respect. The second link is about the Dale Hollow Regs. The slot limit is between 16-21 with a creel of 2 I think.

The way it sounds to me is that you are allowed daily to keep one under 16", and one over 21".

No offense, but the one that I catch under 16" will be release into the skillet, and the one over 21" will be hung on my wall.

As a matter of fact I can. My last tournament, my cousin caught a 4pounder and it measured on our board but was a sixtenth short on the "official" board. But the 6 and a half pounder i caught the cast after kind of made up for it. This year alone i have probably had to turn loose 6 or 7 smallmouth that barely didnt measure.
