Sweet looking baits! The fish down here would kill them!

He purchases the baits and paints them or can repaint old baits. I don't know his source.

They look good! They're Patty blanks from Jann's, they work really nice, and are fun to paint

Patty's?? I don't know. Here's a pic of one he did for me. This one will be a challenge for the younger guys. Not the best photo due to the flash.

Here's a Speed Trap he did for me in the same shad pattern. I've caught stripers, catfish, perch, and bass on it.

Yes, the blank is called a patty, they sell a lot of really nice blanks, a lot of Japanese knock-offs, below is a pic of one I did. He does nice work, it's a talent not a lot of folks have, he should be proud!

DP, ever considering making your own blanks yet? truth be told, I hate airbrushing (probably only because the air propellants i use are terrible) but love carving like no other... the designing and carving and shaping and detailing... it feels amazing.

Not sure where the blanks came from but the ones at jann's are not clear to begin with, these look like they are clear bodies to start with, especially on the ghost shad color.

Some of the Jann's blanks are clear, some are that ivory color, I guess it depends on what they want to send you.

I'll contact my source and find out and post where he buys his stuff. The bodies are clear. He likes to paint them to match as closely as he can to real baitfish. You would be impressed by the damaged scales that he paints on them. Makes the bait look like it's been hit and wounded. You can see a little of it on the bottom left bait in the photo.

Thanks Zook, been to busy with "life" to paint much lately, but the holidays are over and the days are officially getting longer so the itch will hit me soon lol.

DP, the only ones that I have gotten were the bone color, I wish they had sent me some of the clear ones, that opens up a whole new world of paint options.

They do send what they want, for a while they had real Norman deep little N's and deep baby N's then one time when i ordered I got cheap chinese knockoffs that barely swim. Its indeed a crapshoot what your going to get, sometimes you get A+ blanks and sometimes they are double F's.

here's one of those blanks that I painted

That's a fine paintjob, I'm working on getting to that level

Yeah - some of these blanks are good, some are good for practice

The new styles they just came out with all came in clear except for the topwater, it's ivory, I intend on trying these out soon, hopefully. Like you 'life' in the form of two trucks in the shop has taken over!!

Ok, here is what I've been told about the topwater baits by the guy who painted them. They come from Jann's and are the same blanks as Sammie's. Or that is what he was told by the Jann's people.

Real or knock-off blanks??? I just know that they are painted very well.
