Default I hate snakeheads

Today while fishing in my backyard I caught no bass instead I caught a very large snakehead which stole my brand new spinnerbait and better yet got it self stuck in some underwater vegetation when I to go get my spinnerbait back I noticed a cottonmouth watching me from a few feet away with its head back sorry for the ranting but the people 3 docks down caught 4 or 5 4-6lb largemouths im not even sure where this goes on this forum.

Frankly, this one has me scratching my head. But I believe every thread deserves at least one reply, so I'll give it a shot.

Are you saying you caught the cottonmouth on your spinner bait?

OR ...

Are you saying the cottonmouth prevented the Bass from coming in range of your bait?

Maybe some clarification is in order...

Your post had a little of everything, so it could have been classified in general discussion, casual discussion or perhaps even off topic discussion. Even the bragging board would have been acceptable. I think in general it is not considered a huge problem or offense should you post in the wrong forum, just do your best.

Regarding the deciphering of the text, there is no need to bust your balls, I understood what you were saying. Some punctuation or proofreading would be nice. I always reread what I write and ask myself "did I phrase that in a way that is easy to understand"?

Brother LOve, don't be so hard on the boy!!! I've seen a lot worse! I did have a question for you, Kiddo. YOu just sprung a new one on me, I didn't realize the snakeheads had made it to Florida already. Are you sure it wasn't a mudfish (Grinnel, Bowfin, Choupique)?
Got to love those old smelly mouthed cottonmouths, though, they can really ruin your day!! Especially if they get a hold of ya!

As far as your neighbors catching fish, I would slip over there and ask them if they minded you making a few casts from thier dock!

I wasnt trying to be hard on him, sometimes things sound worse than they are. Just trying to be helpful. I've seen a lot worse too. Way worse.

I thought what you did about it being a bowfin instead of a snakehead, but he said snakehead...and florida has more invasive species than they can keep track of.

There is a snakehead murrel per google.

That fish in your picture is a bowfin. They are native and very common in your area, and do in fact have a known tendency to destroy spinnerbaits. They are commonly thought to be snakeheads in the wake of publicity from the introduction of snakeheads to much of the US, and its an easy mistake to make as they look very similar.

You can differentiate a bowfin from a snakehead just by looking at the size of the anal fin, bowfins have a short anal fin while snakeheads have a very long anal fin

Bowfin

Snakehead

Your fish ----> bowfin

Bowfin are natives, snakeheads are invasive and if you catch a snakehead ---> targeted for extermination.

That's a big snakehead. Haven't caught one that big but I'm sure I will eventually. Caught three the other night. Best was in the 6lb range. Still looking to catch one over 10lbs.
