Default Hook sharpeners.

Before I start bass fishing again, I need a hook sharpener. From your experience, which ones are best, long lasting, and most reliable?

thanx,

One of these:

They cost about $5 at WalMart. Well worth the investment.

I have a few files that I use, similar to the one below. I don't know how it compares to Reb's file, and I don't know if it's the best, but they put sharp points on hooks and they meet your two criteria of long-lasting and reliable.

Actually, I'm sure that Reb's file hones to a sharp point, but in my experience--that's mine only--I'm more likely to stick myself from hook slippage with the narrower sharpening surface.

I have to admit that has happened to me a time or two ;D The advantage of the one I use is that it can fit in a shirt pocket.

Reb, I've tried the pencil type like you have but went back to the Luhr Jensen file. Besides they make a small one you can slip into a pocket.

Just get a 1" by 3" file at the Wal-mart. They are in the fishing dept.
