I have a 1548 DuraCraft with a 40hp Johnson, and I was wondering what would be a good prop to put on it? I was wondering if I sould go stainless or alum., and what will be a good pitch to come out of the hole quickest? Thanks in advance.

1fastlaser,zooker, rebbasser and a few others can help you out pal. the only thing i know is that the pitch is what tells ya how many feet it goes per revolution. lets say a 24 pitch takes you 24 feet per turn (full turn) of the prop. hope this helps you out. and i believe you would be better to get a stainless than an aluminum. but seeing that you have 40 hoss, it may not matter that much. i dunno really.

The pitch of the prop that I currently have on is 12-1/4x15. This prop is alum.

The reason I am asking this is because I don't feel like I am getting everything out of my motor.

Fishin' Spro, are you even old enough to operate a boat or are you still playin with them in he bathtub?

seems a bit big to me.. mine is 10 3/8 x 14p and that is a 50 horse yammer

That is what was on it when I bought it (used). I don't have a clue when it comes to the different pitches. I copied it right off of the prop.

look here it seems to be the right prop though a 13p would get you out of the hole faster..that boat will never fly.. it should go better with a ss prop..

Prop seems a little big maybe drop down a pitch typical a bigger prop will be faster but will be slower out of the hole. The only advantage you really hase with a SS is if you need a repair. The stainless can be fixed etc

40 HP - alum prop. 1/3 the cost of stainless and you really don't need a stainless prop on a 40HP unless you have nothing better to spend your $$$ on. I think Zooker is right about the 13p being the prop for that motor/boat combo.

an ss prop will boost your top end speed by at least 3 mph. in the small moters such as this the ss props are made for more mid range lift than top end.. it'll allow you to cruise at a lower rpm at the same speed..

I'll take your word on that one (+MPH). I haven't run anything under a 48HP on my first boat (16' Sea Nymph) years ago. For all the performance that boat provided, I could not justify the expense of an SS prop. Gas consumption wouldn't be much of an issue (for me anyway) on a 40HP. My other issue would be with the smaller motor's smaller components in the lower unit which may easily withstand an impact to an alum prop (which will bend pretty easily) but may fail due to the impact delivered when using a SS prop. It's much cheaper to replace an alum prop than repair a SS one or a lower unit. I appreciate that everyone wants different results from their fishing boat, so whatever best suits your needs and wallet is really the only important issue, but for me a SS prop on anything under a 75HP motor is not worth the additional expense.

i got 11 mph faster on my top end with a ss prop after some tweaking..

i have a 50 horse so go figure..
