Default Ok,here's an angler Frogging

I don't want to open a bad can of worms
BUT

See how he lets the pole work it's magic.
See how he gets the fish above and away from vegitation.
See no 'flip flops'.
The guy really picked a great song for the video too.

Oh and this is an Iowa angler fishing Minnesota. Dean, thought you may get a laugh out of that.

For you GoPro anglers, this was done with editing with 'Windows Movie Maker' which is a free download.
First time he used it to edit his movies, so it must be fairly easy also?

Hope you enjoy, I did!

Oh another thing I found interesting was how fast he works the frog and without really pausing very often.
No frog walking either really.
I'm definitly going to try working frogs faster this year.

He found a LOT of hungry bass. Froggin' is FUN, love that down on the Potomac River - the occasional snakehead adds to the frog fun.

Sitting here inside when the temp outside is below zero and the ground is covered in white, this video gives me hope. lol He sure seems to have a good hook up ratio. I have not had much luck frogging the past couple years for what ever reason, but the video has me wanting to tie one on!

Frogs ... nothing elicits a strike in shallow weedy water like them. I fly fish, mostly, and a frog fly is way too much fun in the weeds. If the bass are shallow, any time of day, they'll suck in a frog ... it's their "pizza"!!!

Oooh great video, many thanks for sharing.

This year will be the first year I will be using nothing but surface lures on some of my ventures out when the pads and weed are on the water. I've got myself a good rod with a fast action & plenty of backbone for getting the esox out of dense weed/pads. Paired with the reel I got for Christmas, I'm yet to get some braid but not in no rush until after the LAS lurefair.

i wish we had some water around here that frogging would work. i am going to do some frogging this year, but it will be about 30 feet deep this summer. i think it will be a great tactic for really big summer bass.

It does not have to be pads, can be topped grass be it green or even brown stuff that looks like broom sage.Even buckbrush or a man made piece of concrete with a spro popper will do.That one can be used just about where one would toss a popr only snagless so when water is up can toss back in the bushes.
I am fortunate have 1 acre of pads in the state park nearby and forty miles away have a few hundred acres of yellow lilly pads.Early on they are like as in top pic, later a full blown jungle.

Each may require a different retrieve each time one goes, sometimes running sometimes stopngo sometimes popping one never knows until tried.Early on a horny toad 30 lb braid, later 50-60 and floaters.

I'll tell you something that I experience when frogging Pads.

I actually like to let the frog rest on the Pads large leafs.
They are more transparent then most think.
Especially with A HIGH SUN. They only probably see a shadow or dark profile but the twitching on the leaf really seems to get thier attention and they seem to want to strike before the frog reaches another leaf/pad.
I then twitch it on the actual leaf and very slowly twitch it off the leaf.
Rest. Usually a second or three.
Then traditional frog walk to next larger leaf.

Amazing how many strike on the slow twitch coming off leaf.

Would love to have a few days lake that. Thanks for the link.

I think all in all, I've had better luck burning or steady reeling across the pads with an original Spro or like hollow frog. I'm still waiting on breaking in a 8' rod I built last year for a padded lake at the house.

One of my favorite frogging techniques is to cast it up on shore. If I can get it just at the edge, head on the water, legs in the ground, and shake it a while. Then, after you can't stand it, pop it about 2 feet and pull it another foot or so. Then fish it back to the boat normally.
Most of the time, using this method, the strike will come as soon as you jump it off the bank.
This will work without pads or any cover, since it gives the bass a target to home in on, which can bring them in from depths and distances.

Thanks for the welcome ... so far, I've like what I've seen and read.

ABSOLUTELY!!! The main lake I fish is a small, private, man-made lake. To help with soil erosion, it is mandated that the shore has rip-rap at the water's edge. Because there is a spill-way, the water level is very consistent. Later in the summer there tends to be 1 or 2 feet of open water between shore and where the weeds star; many times there is less than 6 inches of water. When the recreational boating gets busy, this is where the waves crash against shore, but as soon as the water calms down the bass tend to hang out on the inside weed edge and look for anything that comes into that 1 or 2 feet of open water right next to shore. They will hit anything that is pulled off shore into that small open patch, but a frog works especially well because it can be worked over the rest of the weeds and the outside edge as well.
