to be a consistent bass angler
catching three or four fish in the spring or in the fall does NOT make you consistent. you are fishing the easy times to catch fish. i rarely go out when i don't catch at least one fish. i may have to bust my butt to do it. but more often than not i can catch at least one year round..
want a tough day the last two weekends have been just that on high rock lake.. windy with rain and post frontal.last week i caught 8 bass 6 keepers with a 6.1 pound toad.today i landed 4 lost 3 big was 2.8.. these last two weeks are the first time i have fished this section of lake in nearly 2 YEARS.. i will be the first to admitt i am not a great fisherman. but i try the best i can.. how to be consistent? easy knowlage knowing the water you fish knowing what is under the water. -struture- this all takes time on the water to be very good at it. knowing the fishes habits at a giving water temp-possibly the toughest to learn.. we all have seen lizards big bass no dout the guy was on..but from lenthy phone calls to his lizzyness. he has admitted not being able figured out the summer patterns of fl bass YET!!! in 4-5 years he will.. he is probly the most improved fisherman i have seen on this site in the last couple of years.. stop blushing lizzy i still handed you a whippin.. zooker

If there is one thing that is certain, it takes a lot of just getting out on the lake. I know I do a lot better when I can fish at least 2 days a week, when I don't, say I take weeks off like I have recently I get off the fish and can't come right back to them much of the time. I also tend to go to a lot of different places, meaning I'm not getting great at knowing any one particular location just yet. There are a few that I can go to any time of the year and do well, but I havent been to those locations much this year. Zook is 100% right about the importance of learning deep down what makes a certain spot good, knowing all the cover, all the forage and grass and the contours and understanding where the fish will hold.

Agreed. And I agree Lizards is the most improved angler on the site-so far . Once we got him to stop using that Snoopy rod and reel...... .

Well put, zook. I see a lot of boastin' and braggin' in the spring and fall....even heard of a guy that photoshops the fish he so proudly posts, but most of these folks go missing once the jetski's come out
