Default Carp on a rattle trap

I had to tell this story, It has finally started getting somewhat nice here in N.E. Ohio so we have been hitting the local ponds, fishing slow, and starting to catch some large mouth. Today it was alittle rain and cold but went anyway. I was throwing a red eyed 1/4oz lipless and kept getting bit but no takers. I would say every 5 min or so something was wackin at that bait but it wouldn't take it. I thought to my self I should have at least hooked one by now, but anyway I finally did and it was a wopper! I thought well I side hooked a carp, but that wasn't the case. I reeled this hog in and this damn carp had my rattle trap in his mouth, my brother is my witness. It had to be 15 to 20lbs. Thats why I couldnt hook anyhting because the carp were wackin it, but this one ate it. My brother and I just looked at eachother like did that carp really bite that bait. I would love to hear if anyone else has had a carp eat a bass bait besides a little grub. Just got some humor out of it and thought I would share.

I've caught a couple of carp on crankbaits. That's out of 1000s and 1000s of casts in carp-infested waters.

That is cool, but your experience further solidifies my belief that what we deem as "bass baits", i.e., lures or baits "designed" to catch bass might very well indeed have a more universal appeal to other fish species than we perceive or give credit to.

Carp is on my to do list some day.

I was throwing a white Fat Free Shad into a laydown one time when I thought I snagged one of the branches. Then it started moving and it ended up to be a carp... Don't remember the weight, but it wasn't as big as the one you caught. It does happen occasionally.

i caught a big carp on a rattling rogue at ky lake years ago, it spooled me and the boater kept up and we eventually got some line back on my reel and got it in, got the rogue back to. It was bottom hooked on the belly

I have caught carp on doughballs. Never on artificial. I did catch a nice catfish on a Snagless Sally.

About ten years ago on the Kanawha river I caught one on a gitzit, thought I had big bass of the T,oddly located in the rocks where a runoff pipe off the road was and had colored itself in blotches or semi changed its appearance.
Also caught a river red horse sucker on a spinnerbait. Both species have the mouth on the bottom. 5 lb catfish on a white rat ,ohio river, grass bed .
Drum here frequently hit rubber or traps along with gar,so yes many things are attractive to other species.

Well being from Ohio as well, we were fishing a tournament at Deleware Lake last year, and when I flipped my finesse jig into the middle of a laydown, my line jumped, and in my head i'm thinking "oh yeah" big fish here we go... set the hook, and my rod didn't budge... for a seconed.... then this fish started pulling drag and taking me down the bank. Boater had the net out ready to go and people at the marina were all watching and hollaring about the big "bass" that I had on. Long story short it ended up being a big carp (10-12 lbs.) that bit the jig and I had him hooked in the mouth!

Caught one that was 32" and 20lbs on a Baby 1. Hit the bait and I thought I had a 6-8lb bass at first and then it began to tow the boat.......
