Default Good read with some new ideas..you may or may not of tried

Now I work squarebill cranks all season in hard bottom rivers.Especially if smallies are my target.

But here are some thoughts from Kieth Combs on dog day cranking.
Kind of makes you rethink the traditional deep water hot summer time fish tactics.

I found the thinking very rational and intriguing too.
I do alot of drop shotting and shaky head jig fishing in August with the thinking the bass get lathargic and want slow presentations.

Well I'm now rethinking this after reading Kieth Combs article.

What do you anglers think?

Living in Florida, I've spent the last 20 years fishing shallow. In Central Florida, very few lakes are deeper than 20 feet ... most are only about 12 feet deep at the max.
So, I always go to the same areas all year long. Many times, those "deep" holes of 12 feet are also the lowest oxygen levels, so nothing is there anyway.
Heavy weeds provide a shade cover. Finding an open hole in the weeds is often the only way to find good sized fish.
I've caught 4 and 5 pound bass in 90 degree water ... but this is Florida.

Ya it's almost like fishing in two different worlds, Florida and Wisconsin.

I know some Florida boys and it really kinda of limits your techniques too.

BUT some get to Peacock Bass fish and Redfish too.

How about you?

The Peacock Bass don't live this far north. And the Reds are closer to salt than I like to get. There's enough LMB and other sunfish within a few miles of me to keep me happy and relaxed for the rest of my life.
Since I get to fish for other species in my travels, I am not overly adventurous here at home.
