Default Disengaging Levelwind and Heavy Braid

Do any of you use heavy braid ( >50lb) with a disengaging levelwind reel?

I just put a whole spool of 65 lb Power Pro on my Silver Max, and it just seems awful heavy and rough...I can imagine it screeching back and forth across the spool through that stationary line guide. The 30lb braid I was using didn't seem too bad (though as you know it was crappy braid, so it had to go).

What are your experiences with this type of setup?

It shouldn't be a problem man , i use 50lb power pro on my daiwa mega force with no problems just give it a bit of time for the braid to break in and it should be fine .

Thanks, man...I sure don't want to use my revo for spinnerbaits, when any ol' reel will cast a heavy bait a long way.

you're still using crappy braid.powerpro is a 4 strand braid and is rough.get the new fireline 8 strand braid and come into the modern world.braid works fine with all reels.the 8 strand is much smoother and makes less noise.it digs less and has more body.

Although, I haven't tried it, I have heard the new Fireline braid is really good.

dodgeguy is right about the 4 vs 8 strand thing. If you don't want to spend the cash on the fireline braid (although I do believe it's about the same price as the stren sonic garbage) then get Sufix. It's got 6 strands, and therefore is smoother and rounder than the 4 strand power pro.

Well, unfortunately, Fireline is not available in my hometown. I hate buying something based solely on internet recommendation, but I might try to order some.

The Sufix braid was priced much higher than than the Power Pro, but not knowing it had more strands....I do my best to try out a lot of different brands, but man, there's almost too many.

I heard that......Even though our local Wallyworld only has a limited selection of lines, it still takes up a 1/3 of an isle....I stand there lookin at all the boxes and wonder which one I should try?

Holy Frijoles, that fireline braid is EXPENSIVE. For that price, it better be good. I'll get some and we'll see.

Dodgeguy...would you still recommend 50-65 lb fireline braid? Or does it behave differently than the other braids in that department too? (digging in)

Well, I tried out a small shop today, and they had some Fireline braid.

Dodgeguy, I have to give you props for bringing it up. This stuff is slicker than owl snot. You almost can't tell it's braid. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow. Thanks again.

great reading......was just about to splurge for my first spool of braided line, I had NO IDEA what the differences were, I don't mind paying for the good stuff because it's not something I'm going to go thru fast. I will make a note of fireline and ( 8 strands ) and pick up a spool. I didn't realize that some were 4, some 6, and some 8 strands, and that the higher the #, the smoother it comes off. Thanks again !

...slicker than "owl snot" ?? wow, that's REALLY slick !! LMAO
