Well I'd offer to fix that and let you fish with me, but alas I don't think that will happen in 2014. I'm sure Donald or Woody could really help you out there as they caught smallies as well as Ron & Allen. They have a pretty good handle on what worked well the past couple of years.

I know most of you will be haulin' boats to Dale Hollow.
IF anyone is thinkin of renting a jon boat, I called the marina yesterday and found out a lil news.
Jon boats are 55 bucks per day, and you can no longer get an additional troller and/or fishfinder.

I I hafta haul a troller, battery and FF, I may as well rent a truck (vs a car) and haul my own boat down. The $220 I save by not renting one of theirs, will more than make up the difference in rental costs and fuel, between car and truck.

BTW, currently workin on a red tato salad recipe for Friday's dinner. I also took the baked beans to a new level yesterday ; )
I love tryin new recipes!!!! Next up......cole slaw!!!!!!!!

Hey Mike, here's a rental that is being offered over at Cedar Hill Marina. Cedar Hill is located very close to where we are staying so. Here's a link to the rental.

If I can make it and you're not in Kansas or Pennsylvania our somewhere, your house isn't much out of my way. We could carpool, and take either my boat or yours. The way it looks, we won't be short on boats.

There are a few of us that have fished Dale for a few years and are willing to share what we have learned when it comes to fishing dale. The first thing I want to make clear is that I am by no means an expert... far from it, okay.

First thing I want to mention is that if you choose to use braided line, I would make sure to tie on a clear leader of your choosing. Especially if you are choosing to fish the lower end (where we are staying) to fish. The water their may not be perfectly clear, but it will be very close to it anyways. All of the Dale Hollow veterans that I have heard from insist on limiting your fishing line's visibility. Stealth plays a very important part in your approach to fishing Dale. Most of the time I will be fishing with 8lb copolymer or monofilament. And when I'm dragging a jig, it will be using braid with a flourocarbon leader.

As the dates get closer, I will relay what I'm reading from dale hollow fishing reports about what baits are working. I will give you a little heads up about what has worked in the past, during previous pre-spawning period, and they are the jerkbaits, and the soft swimbaits.

I will report back later, when I get more info.

Here's the latest Dale Hollow fishing report for February and a preview of what to come this March.

This report was written by Keith Palmiero

Dale Report Feb/March:

Do to the very cold temps this winter fishing has been a little slow, but there are still fish to be caught. Water temps are in the 41 to 36 degree range depending on where you are. Upper end is always a little colder than the lower. There is not much sign of a shad kill from mid lake down, but the upper end is in the backs of the creeks. This month the tailspinner, silver buddy, and float n fly are your best baits of suspended fish. If searching the flats for fish switch to a jig or a Texas rigged creature bait.

As the weather begins to break in the next few weeks and into late to mid March look for the smallmouth to stage on the deeper banks leading into feeder creeks with spawning areas of peagravel and clay. This is my favorite time to be on the water as everything is waking up from a long winter and on the move.

When the real first warm spring rains beging look for the shad to move to the feeder creeks into the colored water as it will be a couple of degrees warmer than the main lake. The Smallmouth and Largemouth will not be far behind. Jerkbaits, Crankbaits and slow rolled Spinnerbaits are best for these fish.

As the main lake temps begin to climb to the 50 degree range, its jerkbait time. The jerkbait bite will start as the water temps reach the 48 to 49 degree range and are climbing. Suspending jerkbaits with long pauses at this time until the temps get above 50 and stay there. Then you can work them a little faster.

Fish these on the first deep drop you can find adjacent to spawning flats on the main lake and at the mouths of the feeder creeks and points in the larger creeks.

These fish will be feeding heavy this time of year so keep looking at your graph for bait. At this time of year the bait will move a lot looking for the warmest water it can find. It will move in and out of the creeks overnight. One morning you might find it all the way in the backs, and by 9 am it might be all the way at the mouth. The fish will follow the bait when feeding heavy so keep monitoring your electronics. One thing you can always do in early spring is watch the Loons. They always tell a good story!

As March progresses and the water temps rise above 55 degrees and get close to 60, start looking for the smallmouth to move up onto the flats and offshore shallower humps on the main lake and onto the pea gravel and clay banks in the creeks. Swimbaits, I prefer Big Hammer Baits, grubs and crankbaits will work well for these fish in the 15 to 25 foot range. The largemouth will do the same, but they will always show up a couple weeks before the smallmouth. Shallow!! Look for them on top of the main lake humps and on the flats in 5 to 10 feet of water in the grass that's left over from the previous year. And when I say in the grass they will be buried in it. I use Texas rigged creature type baits for these fish as well as on swing heads like the Punisher Hail Marry.
From my experience on highland reservoirs, the more sever the winter, the better the spring fishing. So I look for this spring to be very productive.
