Default Learned something today

Guess this falls on this forum, since it's kind of a tip.

Reelin in a spinnerbait today and suddenly, there was nothing there. I'm still reelin but there's zero tension on the other end. Kept reelin while i'm tryin to work it out in my head, just what was goin on. Then it hit me...fish on, and just like uncle Jimbo says "OMG it's comin right for us!"

Pike hit the bait from behind and was still comin straight at the boat.

Some of you have probably had this happen before, some probably not.

yup its a lesson we all have happen and always exciting, sometimes you feel the bump and know they are on and coming at the boat, other times ya wonder why the line feels so limp till you catch up with them. If I can get away with it I give the rod a pump on the way in, alot of times you don't get a good hookset when the fish grabs it and it heading your way.

yeah, i have had it happen quite a bit. that is where a high speed reel comes in really handy, so you can take up a lot of line and catch up with the fish.

Allways keep in touch with your spinnerbait blade action and tension, if all of a sudden you still feel tension but not the blade, then a fish may have it in his mouth and the blade is on the top of it's head!!

Happens all the time with me. When you don't feel any weight, set the hook.

The same thing happens with a chatterbait too. Got to love that lack of sensation but of course you have recognize it and pick up slack very quickly. Sometimes you just can't catch up......and those are the really big ones
