One weekend at the Pointe.... It is true true though.

I wonder how the fishing went today? I know they probably got storms this morning. I'd guess that no one brought a computer with them to post pics from today but I know Mike and Dave are 'puter geeks so they must be exhausted busting them up and from all the great food.

I am back too. Woke up this Sunday morning and really wanted to try again but the wind was kicking and more rain was predicted. But I was still willing to face the elements of nature yet again. Then a flash of lightning later it was decided to just head home. I just checked the river level gauges and it went from 4.5 to 6.5 overnight and the flow was way up too. Dirty water and lightning again.. No not a great idea.

So here is my report.

Arrived a little early than expected at Red Rash Inn and met up with Tom.. Had a couple adult beverages and went to dinner. Found some 1$ chips from a casino in the parking lot and came back to see if Cranky was there yet...Where is Cranky I wondered. Tom found the answer out when Cranky called. I will let Cranky explain.

Next morning at 4am I get up and get things ready. Glorius outside with light winds and cloud here or there. On the drive to the ramp, which I seemed to have forgotten how to get too after 7 years absence, it starts to sprinkle.
As we arrive at the ramp the sky erupts with lightning and some heavy rain. We take shelter in the pavilion and wait for the thunder to subside. Rain is now a light sprinkle again. We head out and start fishing a split island just north. Dave and I fish one side pretty quick and then bear down on a likely area at the head of the island. Picking it apart and nothing not even a hit. About then the rain comes in heavy and for one hour it just pours. I look up and Tom and Cranky had moved up to our area without a hit either. Just when you think it can not possibly rain harder it ramps up again and again. Friggin deluge of water from the sky.. no lightning but massive amounts of rain. Bildge is falling behind and boat is filling up.. That much rain came down. Tom and Cranky head for the barn at that point. 40 minutes later it just stops. Dave and I keep running North and I find a small one on one of Smitty's tubes. Lose it at boat. I get another hit and was asleep at the wheel. Then I get a nice smallie on a Zippin Ziggy.

That was my only fish.

Later we cooked and some company came to join the four of us. Food was good and the company was even better.

Arright well then time for my report

So i packed up some shorts a pair of jeans and some T-shirts to get ready for some good fishin... Then, we start heading over to PA about 5:30 on Friday. When we get there, I call Tom after realising that there were 2 Red Roofs in Harrisburg, and we happened to book the north-side one. So, i figured I would go meet up with the rest of the guys at their Red Roof in the morning.
I woke up at 5, and got everything set up. As soon as I put my rod in the trunk, I started to feel the drizzle. Figured the rain couldn't last forever, and just shrugged it off.
Met up with bassintom, dave, and captmike at about 6. We waited for the rain to pass over and then just headed over to the ramp.
Mike already told you about the weather when we got there, but a picture is 1000 words

later, we just decided to launch, and headed our separate ways through the pouring rain (thankfully Captmike had some extra raingear for me to borrow). It was like a hurricane on the water.

After pitching a tube and a senko for a bit, as Tom went through a spinnerbait Pop-R and buzzbait with his almighty red shad powerworms as well, we called it quits as the sky just poured. On the way back, Tom predicted that the rain magically stops as soon as we pull the boat out. He was right.
After about 15 minutes, we couldn't resist the urge to fish, and ended up casting from shore.

and of course, I found a nice spot of my own

neither of us caught a thing, and soon we were putting the boat back into the water. Of course, we had to change because both of us were thoroughly soaked. Tom had an extra shirt for me to borrow (Thanks for that, by the way)

We floated through this

and started fishing a real rocky area near the power plants (i must have hung up atleast 3 times).
Shortly after starting, bassintom gets a hit about a foot from the boat on a spinnerbait

I had 2 hits or so, and once I watched a smallie chase down my bait... got a little excited and kinda pulled the bait out of the water right before the fish shut its mouth. Ah well...

Anyhow, we got back at about 1 to start the cooking and mike had some phenominal chicken and sausages for us. And here we have the northeastern bassfishin get-together squad

Thanks for the pics and report cranky, don't worry bout pulling that bait out of the smallies mouth, it happens all the time here, they suddenly open their mouth close to the boat, when you're least expecting a hit.

Nice pictures of ya and I hope you four will be with all of us next time..the more the merrier..I don't think anyone of us at both meetings had one dull moment, fishing, meeting each other and eating, it sure was ALL good!

The food was delicious, even better than the Honey Browns and Heinies.

I will bring the swag...

Dave and I got to thinking about a Potomac River venue next year.

Just a thought as I also have a place on the water close to Williamburg VA that can handle about 16 people. Good fresh and salt fishing there.

Or I could run about 6-8 hours south if needed.

Options, lots of options, for another get to gether..

Got seven hours of sleep and was up at 4:00 a.m. Still took a two hour nap this afternoon. Couldn't have imagined driving back after fishing a half day. Barely made it to the only Starbucks on I-83. Mike and I both had a coffee beverage and drank them with our pinkies out. I ended up with no fish but, wouldn't have missed it and would do it again. Have never fished in that much rain. We all had rain gear and still got wet. We were so tired after the rain day that we were in our beds (separate beds) and finished The Simpson's Movie and were both out by 9:00. 4a.m. came way too early. Gained a few pounds from the excellent cooking of chef Mike. One of the small highlights were making the waitresses laugh. Even though we weren't laughing after eating some of the food. Prime rib and chicken marsala was excellent, served by a girl from the wrong side of the river.

Looks like you all had a great time despite the rain. Just goes to prove that its not the activity, its the company that makes an activity fun and worthwhile. If we get a Potomac get together I am 100% there since that is my backyard lol.
