Default small lake help

ive been fishing at a local lake 5 times a week now for the past couple of years and it is mostly infested with crappie, bream, and catfish. i have caught a couple of bass but have had no consistent luck. i know there are some huge bass in there because i have seen people pull them out, but i have not had success using anything , if anyone thinks they have a solution to my problem please reply. the water is very murkey , chocolate milk colored and is on average 12-20 feet deep. thanks

see the thing is though there are no brush piles, no anything. there is a fountain in the middle of the lake that spits up water about 30 feet , periodically shutting off. the thing is , the local fascination with ducks and geese are a problem to the bass eggs on this lake. but no specific downed trees , shrubs or anything like that to report of, the only objects are like i said the fountain, which you cannot reach with a cast(cant get on a boat in this lake) , and a water drain stickin straight up which is castable.

Chocolate milk? Think in terms of sound/vibration. A spinnerbait with a big, single Colorado blade, a wide wobbling crankbait with a loud rattle, a bug, bulky jig that will move a lo of water. My go-to in these situations is the spinnerbait. Try casting right up next to the bank ald parallel it as much as possible. If there is no cover in this pond the fish will use the bank as cover.

Like Reb said, use the banks. Also, concentrate on points. I fish a lake like that a lot, I like a big spinnerbait, like a 1/2 ounce or 3/4 with a big colorado and a trailer, usually a grub. Think chartreuse or maybe even black in water like that.

Welcome to the forum, Terminator!

Good point on the grub-I'd forgotten about doing that.

try a 3/8 ounce spinnerbait in red and white. Also try using a blade bait like a zip lure. Ive recently had great luck in dark water with them.

I find that in murky water a tandem or single colorado blade spinnerbait will pull them out.

well u probably shouldnt expect to catch much, after all, its lake louise.
the people that do catch the bass probably use nightcrawlers. ur an artificial lure kind of guy. try the nightcrawlers. sure, its no fun, but thats probably the best bet to catch bass over there. of course, expect mostly to catch those pesky little bluegill.

Fish the banks at dusk and at night time. Texas rig a 10 inch black/blue powerworm or 5 inch senko from Yum, Gulp, or Powerbait. You need the scent after dark. Try the smallest Rapala X-rap or a floating/diving fat bodied crankbait brought in slowly. The slow speed coupled with its bouancy will counteract its want to dive so you won't constantly hit the bottom. Also try a #3 or #4 Mepps black fury. You lake reminds me of the golf course waters we fish out here in Scottsdale all the time. First light, dusk, and after dark are the best times to fish them.

Try a buzz bait also early morning and late evening parallel to the bank. During daytime chartreuse skirt evening black skirt. Also old trick take the skirt off and put a 5" Zoom black curl tail grub on just like you would on a jig head. May have to super glue it to make it stay put but it'll work. Almost forgot use a trailer hook with the skirt set-up.

With no brush or anything like that then i suggest to fish the banks, use spinnerbaits or try using a buzzbait, with merky water you'll probably want something that makes noise, thats why i suggested the buzzbait, try a chartruese colored. Also may want to try a rat L' trap, it may work.

i am on board with the spinnerbait idea and i would use at least a # 6 colorado blade, and deffinatle a trailer hook because most of your bites will be based on vibration and a lot of fish will probably miss the main hook. as for crankbaits i would use something with a huge wide action, a wiggle wort wouldn't be a bad idea.

good luck

Default Bandit Crankbait!

Being a crankbait freak! I would use a 100 series
Taco Salad or Chart from Bandit to catch these
wily suckers. Early morning or dusk.

PS No, I don't work for bandit lures!

Default One more thought

If you see someone catch a bass at this spot, kindly ask them what they are using. That is how I found bandits. I fish a small lake in Illinois due to it's proximity to my house.
I saw a guy catching fish, it seemed like every cast, I asked him what he was using and he showed me the lure. I offered to buy one and he chucked me one and said "good luck". I see this guy a few times a year and he always tells me he has caught about 40 fish.
I think he is either pulling my leg or bad at math...but he is a cool old guy!
