Default Help!!

Okay, so me and my friend were trying to fix a problem with his boat engine, there's a tournament coming up April 3rd and we need a quick diagnose here, let me cut to the chase, here we go:

-the engine is a 1986 115hp merc "tower of power".

-it cranks over but never starts, very hard to start

- we can spray carb cleaner in the carbs, and it can start that way.

- when the engine is running, and the choke is pressed in, it will shut off

- from idle, goin into in to a slow gear, it can stall.

if this doesn't help, please ask any questions, we are desperate for a resolution here!!!

Thanks alot!!

Have the carbs ever been rebuilt or cleaned?

Sounds like the fuel pump diaphragm may be bad..My Suzuki had a stalling and hard start condition. I replaced the fuel pumps(there's 2 on a suzuki) and never had a problem with it again. Have you replaced the fuel filter? You might want to try that first.

Lets start with the two most common issues.

Squeeze bulb gets soft= air in fuel line or bulb bad.
The air return tube for the tank is blocked..
