Default To my surprise, they wanted the spinner bait today

Took the next 5 days off from pushing steel around, and hit the water about 8 this morning, only to find out the water was up about 2 feet due to a big rain last night, and also had about 10 inches of water in the boat.
After getting the water out , I got settled in, there was a nice 14 mph west wind.
On the way to the car this morning I almost forgot my spinner bait pistol grip bait caster, picked it up and once in the boat started to throw it.
The wind quickly took me to the opening of a cut, water was probably 5 feet deep, I threw a real old spinner bait I had made probably 15 years ago, white 3/8 with two colorado blades,
WHAM! I got bite, again and again,, in 35 minutes I had 7 nice bass, 13-16 inches, not real big but full of piss n vinegar as they say. One s.o.b. bite me as I was throwing her back in, I had to think of pnj's post about sharp lip, this one had a bumpy mouth lol
anyhow, I go to the back of this cut, had one more on the spook,
the last fish I had on the spinner bait clobbered my skirt, yet another one fell apart, so I put a rogue in the water, no takers, go back to the dam and throw the tikki, no takers , in fact I think all they wanted was to chase something.
I went back over and over the same waters with buzz bait, trap, and dif spinner bait, but by 11 i'd have enough.
I'll get a sandwich and head back this evening lol
I am guessing that the big rain brought on a feeding frenzied, thought for sure the craw bite would be on, haven't figured that out yet :

Hey JB, send some of that rain down here-we are beginning to need it!

Sounds like a good day to be on the water!

It was great, mainly because I haven't had a "Hay day" on the spinner bait in ages,
I am still amazed and disappointed that the bass didn't take the tikki,
also its nice to hear support from fellow angler/posters than the BS that has been going on since summer school let out LOL

Wow Jb, that sounds like a good time. Have fun later, I will be out too... hopefully catching something worth bragging about. By the way, I've never gotten any luck on spinner baits, actually, I dont think I've ever caught one on a spinner.

I'm taking a week of vacation, too-needed a break bad! Unfortunately I won't be able to fish as much as I had hoped-my mom has to have surgery on the 5th so I'll be dealing with that. Going to get out a couple of times, though-I hope . The only other problem is the weather-supposed to be 98 today, and that makes for a hot day on the water. I'll have to jump in a couple of times to keep cool ;D

Jim, I know what you mean. I had been throwing a spinnerbait for a long time with no success. Then I bought a new strike king spinner bait with 2 willow leaf blades, one bronze/copper and one silver. It was also intricately painted. I threw it out the other day, it was overcast, and caught a bass on the first cast. Got 2 or 3 more in about 30 minutes, so sometimes i guess they are just in the mood for it like JB was saying.

I feel for ya reb. I was out wednesday and it was 98 out, whew it was hot. Felt like I was swimming but i was on the shore! Hope everything goes well for yall on the 5th.

We were at Ky. lake redman tournie in 95 where all the winners had fish off the spinnerbait, 3rd week in april.
The winning combo was two painted white and green willow leaf blades with a black eye painted on the bigger blade, chartruse and white skirt.
Almost everyone in our slip had 8, 7 ,6 and 5 lb fish in the live well, one guy found out about it pre fishing and word got out in our little group, So on this occasion I'll disagree that big fish don't inhale the "spinner dinner"
(can see denny laughin) lol

I have to disagree about a spinnerbait not being a big fish bait. Â*The biggest bass I ever caught came on a spinnerbait-right at 8 out of a little bitty stock tank. Â* Bill Dance's biggest bass was a little over 11 and came on a Terminator spinnerbait with two willow leaf blades.

Thanks, Chiefton-I'm hoping it goes well so I can fish a little this next week.

got bass- bull...

i agree with reb i have caught more big fish on a blade than any other bait. at last count it was 58 over 6 pounds.including a 9.3 pound toad.
