i have a quatum 860 ptx metal reel that is starting to howl like a monkey on the cast tellin me the bearings are getting dry i have spent about and hour trying to get the side cover off but even knowing the release switch must be pushed an you have to rotate the face plate downard i can't get it to move..so what is the next best thing -allready added hot sauce to the other side..

I don't know what is inside, but perhaps a little heat(if it won't hurt anything) on the outside might expand it enough to break it loose or there are some sprays out there for this also. I believe Liquid Wrench is one of them. But of course you know I'm not a reel mechanic, so all of the above is just my best suggestion, short of getting a pipe wrench out LOL

Zooker, they are difficult as hell if they aren't taken apart before.Push the buttton in and push down with your thumb hard. on the side plate. The side plate turns down towards the bottom of the reel. I hope this helps you, I had to check my reel to make sure and sure enough, I didn't think I was going to be able to get my side plate off, but then it popped free. P N J

Zook, they are somewhat difficult to get the side off. I had to fool with mine for a while and then it broke loose. Make sure that the switch is all the way over. It's hard to keep a finger on the switch and bend the side down at the same time. Believe me, been there done that.
