Default Good day on the water

Me and my son got out again sunday for a little while. We went to Monticello. Air temp in the 50's water temp 52. Fished for a minute by a pond levee in 8-10 ft of water no bites, my son suggests we move to the back of the cove where there is some standing timber but the water is only 5 ft deep. I told him there is no way their that shallow yet especally with the cold front.

To please the boy we went back there, and found a submerged beaver dam. 1st cast by a tree near the base of the dam, BAM a 5 pounder, Next cast by the same tree I feel a tug on my jig, set the hook and caught a 8lb 24 incher. A few casts later yields a 7 pounder all by the same beaver dam.
I should note that after the second fish I gave my son the exact jig I was using and let him have first shots at the good holes, It just wasnt in the cards for him.

We finished the day fishing beaver dams in 5 ft of water and managed 1 more 5 pounder. Only 4 fish but not a bad day in my book.

Srry, no pics left the camera at home (one sure fire way to make sure you catch some hogs.)

That's awesome, doc. Very good day on the water. I bet your son hasn't let you live that down yet.

I was really upset that he didn't catch a big'un. I keep telling him anything over 7 for his first and Ill have it mounted. He did take the official net, unhook, and weigh em position on the boat .

And BTW Smelly Jelly is my new go to scent
