Default Have you been spooled? Here's a tip.

We've all been spooled at one time or another. Here's a way to minimize that.

I guess I don't go after big enough fish ... I've never been spooled. Actually, I don't want to catch something that can run that hard and far. Too much like work for me.

Thanks for the tip. All fishing tips are welcome although I have never had a bass "spool" me and probably never will.

This does not work for southern rays or butterfly rays as I have tried it. I see Larry Zonka do that with his super bowl ring on big fish and he says it upsets them and he gets a better fight. Heck if it is on TV it has to be true..

Thanks for the tip. Next sturgeon I hook up I will try it. They spool me every year at least once.

Never had a bass run me to the end, but I've had catfish, carp and musky take all the line I had.

I had a Steelhead and King Salmon almost do it to me. Rather exciting!

Fishing from a kayak I just snug up the drag and let a big fish tire itself dragging me around the lake.

I've never even come close to getting spooled, but all I fish for are bass...and MN/IA bass at that, so nowhere near the size that many of you are after.
