Default wood boat

i am building a wood boat out of plywood to use on a old coal mine pond and was wondering if i really needed to use the fiberglass and epoxy or should i just paint it with a good exterior paint? it will be kept in a carport when not in use and only in the water two or three days a month. any ideals would help.

I built a boat when I was a kid out of plywood. I had a great time in that thing it was around for years my dad got something from the hardware store to help seal the joints but it still leaked over time but it still worked! paint it and float it and dont forget to put in a old pail to bail out the water!

5200 epoxy on marine plywood. do NOT use any pressure treated plywood as it will NOT take any glue made..

You gotta use epoxy, and then paint over that with Rust-O-leum. If you put a coat of paint on once or twice a year, that boat will last a while.
BTW, I had a plywood boat for a while, and it was so heavy it was a huge pain. I'd recomend aluminum, if that'll work for you.

Many people don't know this but MO is the birth of the Jon boat. Most of them where made by hillbillies & used on the white river. I bet if you asked them old boys if they used epoxy. One of them old boys would of said what the hell is that. There still being made & used on lake tanneycomo.

Wood, Nails & hot tar the seams. But you have to remembor thats the way they were made 100 years ago. Stick with Zooks suggestion. Play it safe.
