YUM wooly hawgtail

Has anyone used the YUM wooly hawgtail. If so how do you rig it/ fish it.

Texas rigged. Hook depends on which size hawgtail you use.

Fish it like any other creature bait. Flip or pitch it into the nastiest cover you can. Jig it up and down. Set the hook as necessary.

Killer for a jig trailer. I also like to flip and pitch this bait. It has a small posture for such a large movement.

what size and color would you recomend

Green Pumpkin or Carolina Pumpkin/Chartreuse. These are my two most productive colors in the YUM line of baits - period.

As for size, I'd go with a 4 or 5". This will give you enough body to hook, yet enough tail to flap.

My bro and I catch them on several different colors. We use black/blue tail and watermelon mostly. I like the 4.5" size the most. T-rig it with a 3/0 worm hook. Great creature bait!

There isn't, Im going to a redwings game at the end of the month so I plan to stop there then.

caught my biggest smallmouth (5lbs) on a black/red 5in. last spring texas rigged . Great bait!

Same here, I use 'Katsu hooks 3/0. Very productive bait, especially in muddy waters, under pads, and all sorts of heavy cover.

The Wooly Hawgtail IS one of the most "attractive" soft plastics on the market, at least to the eye of the buyer. There is one downside to the WH(tail) and that is it's fragility when compared to some other "critterbaits".
The one feature that makes it easier to get a good hookset is the very same one that is to blame, and that is the ribbed body.
The center section is thin, thus making it more susceptible to tearing when under battle conditions OR when one is having difficulty in proper hook placement when rigging, either in a Texiz-rigged mode or as a jig or spinnerbait trailer. Use too long a hook and you easily lose the tail section. Miss the mark when seeking a straight rig and you leave a weak spot when you move the entry point for the business end of the hook.
More tendency to breakage = more time spent in rerigging a new WH and more expense.
All that said, I like to use the small ones as trailers on 1/8-3/16 oz small profile jigs, such as the Bitsy Bug or small finesse jigs. There aren't all that many such softies that match up well with the smaller jigs.
I've also caught numerous bass on just the small WH's alone, t-rigged with no more than a free-sliding 1/16 or 1/8 oz bullet weight, a pegged bead, and a small wide gap hook. Finding the RIGHT hook is critical, however, and I usually employ a #1 Gamakatsu wide gap...NOT a 1/0.
Bass in a mood for small crawfish usually give these a warm welcome, especially in clearer water.
Even with much experience I still wreck a few when rigging.

They work pretty well rigged on a 3/16th oz. weedless jighead.
