Thumbs up Hello, this is my first post here.

I live in the Clearwater,Fl area.I usally fish in saltwater with my family but recently I been taking my Son to a State Park that borders Lake Tarpon so that he can catch some Bluegills and Catfish etc.My Son caught his first Bass by using a Bettle Spin.I also caught my first Bass in probably 22 years using a Bettle Spin.
I am getting a trailer for my boat this week and were are going to go to Lake Tarpon.I am thinking about buying some Shiners.I have heard that when the weather cools off the Bass fishing picks up.We have had a few cool days so I am hoping for plenty of action.
This is a great Site.I stumbled on it by looking for Bass fishing tips. Thanks for having me and good fishing.

Hey AKM, welcome aboard. Feel free to ask plenty of questions, and we have tons of members from or familiar with central Florida - so they can help even more.

hey man come on in, your always welcom here, this is a very friendly site and dont forget to read up on the big bass tourney's on here... as for your situation...
If your fishing with a kid it is always important to always catch fish so for the bass i would stick with the shiners under a bobber or just freeline them... and for the gills and catfish i would try nightcrawler or wax worms under a bobber or just off the bottom... just remember, to it doesn't matter to the kid how big the fish is, all he has to do is catch them!! And BTW dont be afraid to ask questions, like i said this place is very friendly!!

Glad you stopped in. Have fun, and shiners will most likely get you the most bass.

Hey AKM, what a small world. My parents lived in Palm Harbor on lake Tarpin. I've fished that lake a few times. We had our best luck fishing in weedbeds well off shore in January using jointed minnow baits like a jointed Rebel or Rapalla. I remember one week when everytime we went out we were getting a strike with nearly every cast. It was the wildest bass fishing I have ever experienced. The funny thing about that trip was there were NO bass anywhere around the shallows, and they would only hit a broken back type lure. Everything else we threw at them was ignored. And...it had to be silver with a black back. One of those times when they were VERY particular. I think the park we launched out of was Anderson park. But I think the name of that park might have changed. I believe there are 3 parks on that lake, and one of them has a different name than before. Watch for gators, LOL. My brother had a near run in with one while water skiing!!! Welcome to the forums

I think that I need to invest in some jointed Lures.I have never fished in Lake Tarpon.I take my Son over to John Chestnut Park on the East side.We have been fishing in the little canals there that connect with Lake Tarpon. Thanks for the tip.
