Default Secret baits ?

Do most people here have a secret bait/trick they use and tell no one or do you share ?

I actually have a few really good ones I learned many years ago but for some reason never see them used.

Fishnngolfn,....... yes ?

We need details..........oh I forgot it's a secret.

I may reveal mine sometime.........they are good ones I think.

Lets put it this way..........It's a bait mod that I have caught many 5+ pounders on often.......and have used it for at least 15 years.

And the funny thing is, everyone here talks about the bait every day but NO one mentions mods to it.

When I am not fishing a fluke, I use a cotton candy lizard from Zoom. I catch a lot of <2 lb bass with it. The way I present it makes the bass attack it extremely hard. I usually get one fish off each lizard before I have to trash it.

if no one is going to share, is there any point in this thread besides holding it above others' heads that you know some great way to improve and bait.

"I know how to make this catch more fis, and you don't! hahahah!!"

Just sayin

Well, BB- since the wacky jig (Pig) and cotton candy lizard (FnG) didn't fit the bill, how 'bout a 3/4 oz. silver single shank spoon (Johnson's) with a bubble gum trailer fished down deep ledges in cold water? A Buckeye friend of mine showed me that many moons ago. Lord help us all, it works.

Gotta love them Buckeyes! (Sorry Michigan fans...)

Have any of you tried rigging a Senko backwards??? Putting the hook into the small end? Completely diff. action.

Not spamming or anything, but Nemesis Sticks do work better than Senkos. Twice as durable and have double the elasticity. Great action on the fall due to the content of the bait.

Who should I send the bill to?

I have many secret baits.. and most all pay me to use them.. and lose them as well.

YES! There is one magical trick I use that has NEVER failed me on a bedding fish. Some of you already probably know it because I may have posted it once, but I figured it out and I'm proud of it.

I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you.

zoom speedworm in wat/red color, cut off tail, texpose weightless on a 2/0 worm hook and use a skipping cast, after that, slow falling and deadsticking presentation works well. Watermelon/red works better than any other color in the zoom speedworm line offered.

Am now going to experiment with circle hooks and hitch hiker inserted into the nose for a touch of a faster fall rate. May not notice the difference in catch rate, but could make a difference under certain conditions.

Robbie,

I suppose it's my innate urge to teach, whether giving free trumpet lessons for many years, teaching basic shooting and gun safety, or "How to make a great Martini", but I seldom keep anything related to bassing success a secret from others.
Those who know me would likely be able to recall some technique, lure, etc., that they employ or own that came to them as either a tip or an outright gift. It's not that any such was an attempt to buy my way into Heaven once "Taps" has been sounded, not at all. Instead, it was self-serving () in another sense in that I so much enjoy watching a partner, be he/she a newbie or veteran angler, catch a fish or report success when I'm not there to observe and enjoy the moment.
Now, I'm certain that my little kindnesses have been hit-and-miss, since not all material gifts or tips have bestowed success on the recipients. Just because I lucked into some success using this, that, or the other didn't guarantee it would work for someone else (or even for me, after that initial lucky day.)
I've come to realize that my little stabs at helping someone do well in this hobby we share are not the product of some "Good Samaritan" gland within me...Nope, not at all. In reality, I think it's an attempt to avoid the crummy feeling I get when a long-time partner or new chum does poorly. So, in a sense, my "generosity" is really thinly-veiled cowardice!
Well, wot-tever the motivation, I hope I've lived up to the same promise newly minted physicians make...To "Do No Harm". I'd hate to think I've actually lowered someone's chances of success

Well put, Lancer6. I have a friend who helps just for the karma. I like to look at it that way also. I expect nothing in return, but must say I get a grand kick out of hearing that someone has done better than before. Thanks for posting and enlightening. Mac

the group of us that fish together have always been open with what works at any given time and I've nocticed that most anglers are, after all is that not the point of this forum that we all frequent ? the only thing I've noticed keep secrect are anglers favorite spots and or lakes/ponds that aren'y well known often reffered to as lake X or so on .
