Default Next confusing word.

If a guy from Alabama says he's going to be Jerkbaiting tommorrow,
that just means HE'S fishing with BAIT tommorrow, right?

If he's from Alabama it may involve his sister too.

Not really a word, but saying you "could care less" implies that you do care. I see this one a lot on forums and even in day to day conversation.

The use of "of" instead of "have" annoys me terribly.

You know...as in "I could of studied harder in school, so I wouldn't come off as such a doofus when I try to express my thoughts in written form".

The misuse and abuse of apostrophes is always comical as well.

"Alot" is a word I see people use a lot. There is no such word.

I also see a lot of people use "saw" and "seen" wrong. I don't know if it's a regional thing or what. "I seen that TW has their Ardent reels on clearance."

I also hear people misuse "good" and "well" a lot. "I think I did pretty good on my test."

Tavery, Jrob....thanks alot!

I know it's none existent.
I know how to spell it.

Yet almost EVERYTIME I use it I have to go back and seperate the a/l.

My tomb stone will probably say, 'Joe fished alot'.

My wife works in the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit) at the state hospital here, where she gets to hear a lot of what she calls "good" names......basically any name that makes you say, "Seriously? They named their child THAT?" In her list of good names, there are many that are spelled with apostrophes scattered around. Or as a lot of the new mothers like to say, "high commas," or "commas to the top."
My personal favorite would have to be Shady'Nasty. No, it's not pronounced "Shady Nasty," as the high comma would have you believe. It's supposed to be said like "Shah Dynasty."
That mama needed someone to tell her to change that.....

Many years ago I worked for a man that owned several very successful businesses. He was a brilliant entrepeneur and wealthy beyond my young ability to comprehend. When describing the grassy area between opposing lanes of traffic he called it the medium. When his accounting year was about to end in October he called it his physical year. There were many more Harrellisms we called them but I have never known a man that I respected more or had a greater influence on my life.

I try to write and speak in a way that reflects respect for my parents and teachers, however I'm often guilty of a loosy goosy type of shorthand when posting here because it is what it is and besides my parents are dead and my teachers are all probably in assisted living.

I went to grade school with a young African American girl named Pneumonia............hand to God!

Where's "Going out of Business?" That would be AWESOME for the name of your last child before either you or your wife had the operation.

Those of us that are known to speak correctly (meaning the South) can't help it our brethren from the Northern tribes just don't know good grammar when they hear it.

Here's an odd one...even by Southern standards.
There's a particular group of people from Mid North Carolina that always pronounce the word wasn't as won't (ryhmes with don't).
I wasn't throwing a crankbait becomes I won't throwing a crankbait...etc
Very peculiar...and when you try to explain the correct pronunciation to them they just look at you like..........

On the Northern side, I've got some in-laws from Ohio that dont wash the car or wash their clothes they....................warsh them
And if you pick at them about it they don't tell you to leave them alone...they tell you to leave them alorne...........odd indeed.

I'm going ice fishing this weekend... I don't even know where to start when someone from the South asks how I get the bass boat through that little hole.
