Curly Tailed Grubs

How do you normally fish a curly tailed grub? I have always used a weighted hook, and used a jerking, up and down motion with the rod to reel it in. But I recently heard that these can be very productive just reeling in slowly along the bottom. Has anyone had success with this approach?

These are one of my most productive baits, so naturally I never really changed up my presentation. But i'm always looking to add more techniques to my fishing!

No wrong way to fish a grub! I havnt used them for largemouth, but smallies eat em up! Hoped along the bottom like a craw dad seems to be the most effective, but they also work when you slowly swim them near the bottom like you said.

i put 4 inch pumpkin grubs on a whistler jig made by northland. bass love them and u can also put the whistler jig on a jig spinner for some flash

I fish them on 3/16 or 1/4 oz. Darter heads. Swimming them along the bottom seems to be the most effective. They will catch nearly every species in the water too.

One tip i can give ya is to make sure you rig the grub with the tail down so it kicks up the bottom and draws more attention to it. One way i fish grubs is to swim smoke colored grubs for suspended large mouths.

These baits will catch anything that swims. They can be rigged on an open or weedless depending on cover. I'll add just enough weight to get them to where the fish are holding and vary the retireve between hops, drags and swimming until the fish tell me what they want. Rigging them on the seam with tail either up or down helps reduce line twist. A swivel up the line may help. Try split-shotting one and fish it like a mini C-rig.

4" grub #2 EWG hook light bullet weight reel slowly keep it moving steadly swimming it along the bottom. Also c rig has been effective. Sometime they will take it on the fall
