Default Newbee with lots of Q's!

First time here and I love it!!! I've been fishing now for over 15 years and yet I still have a lot of unanswerd Q's. Help me out please. How does water temp and seasons (SW Wisconsin spring through fall) effect bass location and mood. I fish the Mighty Mississippi and lakes in the area. If you could list what you think the top 3 baits and methods for each season, I would greatly appreciate it........thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

There is a lot of ground to cover about the water temp, but I'll try to put it in a nutshell ;D

In the spring as the water warms the bass start moving up to spawn when the water hits about 55. They stage in deeper water close to the spawning flats to feed which is why a lot of the big girls are caught in what is called the pre-spawn. When the water hits about 60 they move up on the beds and spawn. It is this time of the year when you hear a lot about sight/bed fishing. By the time the water hits 70 the spawn is over and the fish move off into a little deeper water and as the temperature continues to rise they will move off into deeper water which is more comfortable temperature wise for them. As the water temps begin to fall as winter approaches the fish move back shallow and start to actively feed in preparation for winter. Once the water approaches 50 or so they again move off into deeper water to find more comfortable water temps.

Top 3 baits-
Spring-spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits. jig-n-pig
Summer-soft plastic jerkbaits, topwaters, Carolina rigged lizards-also good during the spawn.
Fall-spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, shad imitating baits.
