Default tooth picks and rust

I was watching Bass Edge last night and seen this tip -- a tooth pick or a q-tip in the your hook box will keep them from rusting. Said they will draw the moisture to them instead of the hooks. Any thoughts on this?

It should work I usually go to a footlocker and ask them if they got any of those little packets that come in the shoes laying around and drop them in with my stuff but the tooth pick should do about the same thing .

I've had one compartment in my terminal tackle box 1/2 filled with toothpicks that I used for pegging, not for moisture control. And I haven't had any rust problems for years now. This year I went with those sinker stoppers that Kevin did a instructional video on, and took those toothpicks out of the box. Now I think I'm going to put them back in for moisture control.

Thanks for the tip. I am going to put some q-tips in my box and see how they work.

makes sense..... i think it will stop humidity but not if you drop the whole box in the water.......

seem plausible! Don't see a reason why it wouldn't work! I'll give it a try!

I'm sure cotton balls would do the trick as well.

Go to a local pharmacy and ask for some dessicants. Almost every bottle of meds in stock has at least 1 or 2 in it. They will be happy to give them to you and they work a lot better than cotton or toothpicks for stopping rust in your tackle box/bag.

That is a pretty good idea. A lot of stuff you buy will have the little packets of Styrofoam-type beads in it that says "Do not eat."

RECON,
That stuff works great for drawing moisture. The problem is that it draws moisture out of everything, including the air. You need to pull those packets out from time to time and put them in the oven, or throw them away and put in new ones. You need to put the spares in a screw top jar to keep them from loading up with moisture before you put them in your tackle box.
I use larger sized packets in my gun cabinet and the instructions advise to dry them out in a warm oven from time to time to remove the moisture they have collected.

Really shows just how dumb people have gotten, when they need a warning like that.
