Default from 75hp to 90 hp

I have a 16.5 Bassboat with a 75hp merc on the back.If I switch to a90,will it make much of adifference? The 75 and the 90 specs seem exactly the same, except the rpm's on the 90 are 5500,while the 75 has 5250 as the top end. What's Up? Thanks for any help.Mike

yes it will the 90 will get you out of the hole a bit faster and gain you about 15 mph in top speed. the reason i asked was in 95 the moter company's stopped takeing the horse power rating off the fly wheel and started taking it off the prop.. a buddy of mine has a 17.2 procraft with a 90 on it tops out about 45 gps or so.. the 90 will drink less gas cause you can back off the thottle and run a good speed were you pretty much ran the 75 wot all the time...also check into a 4"-6" set back it would help the hole shot.don't do over 6" with your small boat ..

ZOOK hit the nail on the head. The 75 didnt stay in production for long because of several reasons. They werent bad motors just the fact the powerhead was capable of more ponies without sacrificing longevity. I personally know the 90 is a GOOD RELIABLE STRONG motor. More people with the smaller hulls should use this motor. As zook stated the 90 will push your hull with less effort therefore saving fuel AND the motor. So many people that buy a new boat buy one with to small a motor and hurt themselves in the long run. You wont be disappointed with the 90's performance and there is a widerange of props available for that engine so you can utilize its performance capabilities.
