Default Reeling against the drag

Will reeling against the drag do damage to the reel or will it do nothing to harm it? Thanks

I know if you do it with an open face reel that it will twist the line all to h*ll. I'm not sure about other one's though.

No, the drag is there to give the fish a little, while you get it closer. The drag is meant for what it is your talking about.

You probably at worst will dig the line into the spool,
two things you can do, one is to thumb your spool slightly or tighten up your drag a tad..you always want to be able to pull out some line with resistance
regardless of how you set the drag...always check it too, weather conditions can loosen or tighten it occasionally

reeling against the drag on a spinning reel will twist the hell out of your line and is useless.reeling aginst the drag on a baitcaster is useless.tightening the drag on the baitcaster turns it into a winch but then you better have a strong rod and line.

I don't have a ton of experience with this as I don't do it. I do know from seeing kids-if you use a spincast reel and do it you're going to have a mess on your hands. I don't use baitcasters. With spinning reels, I just flip the switch so I can either give line or reel in if I have a good one on. (back reeling) I keep my drag down tight-It has to be a monster fish to pull out drag on me. I'd rather control if I'm letting the fish have line or not. I have lost very few fish because of doing this.

Well,
You have seen me fish before, when I hear the drag going, I let him run. Thats why I take a while to bring them in. Have fun with the fish, no need to horse er! With Braided line, now that you got it, set your drag lighter, so it wont dig in real bad! But hey If you really are worried, back reel it, by flippin the switch!

with a drag set right you really don't have to. it is nice to winch in a fish but more fun and or less likly to lose a fish by playing him especily on light line.
