Default flippin' reel

I want to start to learn how to flip and pitch into heavy cover, so I need to get a flipping stick. Does it make too much of a difference as to what kind of reel I get? I was thinking of getting the daiwa 6+1 on a BPS bionic blade. Your thoughts?

i use a quantum mg but in flipping and pitching one thing is important it is a reel with either mag brakes or spring brakes this helps control back lash specally when pitching under docks. a smooth reel is a good idea. as for reel speed. i use a 5.1 with no problems.
when you are at bps pick up the video by kevin vandam pitching to heavy hitters. i highly recomend this flick to any body beginer or seasoned veteran.

personly i would not go with a bionic blade rod cause of the hump-which i totally dislike- my stick is has a shorter handle then any of my other rods-not pistol-

I have the bionic blade and the hump is no problem for me. I actually find it comfortable after fishin all day. Have a 7' H and 7'MH.

Denny Brauer said that a 6:1 reel is the only way to go.
You can get your bait in sooner and pitch again to the next spot. I.E. More time that your bait is in the water where you want it to be the more chances that you have to catch a fish. All that I use for flippin/pitching is 6:1.

Zooker, I'm glad to see I'm not the only person that doesn't like the "power hump" they put on the BPS rods.

ZOOKER,

A coarse wood rasp and some fine sandpaper will take care of that hump (Unlike Quasi Moto)

i use a xps extreem 7' for all of my pitching. a shimano curado left hand seems to work the best for me.i have one of the 6+1 reels from diawa and i personally do not like them. u would b much better to spend a little more money and buy a little better quality reel. shimano also makes a reel specifically for pitchin and flippin and it is absoultly awsome its is a castaic. it has a diffrent style thumbar.u might want to try one of these.

The powerhump looks like a great idea in the BPS catolog, but in practice I can't help wondering if the extra cork affects the sensitivity of the rod. I have a tourney special flipping stick which I am hardly satisfied with - and the hump might be part of the problem (not to mention the heavy guides, poor blank and overabundance of epoxy).

Reb I'm getting the impression you're falling to the dark side with the rest us ;D I can't say I blame ya at all, and I'm willing to join in the fun occasionally. We can't keep all the kids out, and by no way do I want to. There are too many good ones to let the sorry a$$ punks ruin it for them. Just wish their parents taught them a few more manners, and their teachers made them pay attention in class a little more

Hey, I've got my limits, too. Guess I can just ignore it a little longer than y'all ;D. Fortunately, if we don't feed them they go away, which is a big reason why I mostly ignore them.

Well, it's good to see that a new moron(s) has joined. : : :

as for the orignal question, I have a Shimano curado and a cabellas prodigy reel(s) on loomis 6'6 h and 6'6 mh. Although I prefer the curado, the prodigy is a very nice real for about a 1/3 of the money. BTW, good to see all of you again after a month and a half away. Too bad this place sucks worse than the first one.

Hula, My widdle feelers are hurt. :'( I have 4 of the procaster 6+1 reels and think there isn't a better reel out there for the money.I do not use them to flip with because they do not work as well as my old Daiwa TD-1 tournament reels for flipping.I think the reason is because they aren't broken in yet. Before you buy a flipping stick ,take a look at the Castaway Bud Pruitt series flippin sticks. They are $99.00 and are worth every penny of it. Think about 30lb braided line or heavier depending on where you live. ;D P N J
