Default whats your thought ?

How many of you use dark colors and secondly how many of you dress the hooks ? This is a new bait I bought at Bass pro shop today, $1.99 sale.I just finished putting gamakatsu trebles & the feathers on, have got to trim them up some yet. P N J

i don't personally put feathers on the rear treble. in fact i really don't like feathers at all on my hard baits.. i belive this added feather makes the bass hit the back hook more or even short striking.

i began tying feathers on all my popR's about 10 years ago when zell roland was hot in BASS and won many tourneys with his modified popRs...all the tv shows for about a year would feature his techniques. I've had good luck with chicken feathers, and being out here in the sticks, every neighbor raises chickens and other critters, so feathers are no sweat

JB, Do you shave the cup like he did ? Funny thing about pop r baits, the lighter line works better than heavier test line. That is the only time I will use 10 lb test line for top water baits.I have had better success with pop r's over weed beds. not popping them hard, just allowing them to walk the dog as best as they can at a slow cadence.I always repaint the mouths on them as well, either silver , or white instead of red as they usually are. The water spray from the brighter colored mouth seems to give it a flashier look to the bait. I look for more flash than I do popping sounds, but I am not always correct.I also tie the pop r tails with feathers , or the heavier crinkled looking synthetic hair you can find in the fly tieing section. pnj,
i used to shave the cups and sharpen them, I think all my gazillion popR's I've done that to, then repaint the cup with some of the wifes red fingernail polish...something to do at work when the man's not lookin..
I've tried to sand the sides down flat as zell rowland used to recommend, but have never seen any advantage doing that, plus it takes the paint job off, I would repaint them firetiger, but black and silver popR is still a proven winner, my second choice is translucent rebel popR, looks soooo much like a shad on the river to me

I occasionlly use red and white feathers. I've never used black, but that looks nice.

I tied the trap on and went to a (small)Waneta lake this morning.I caught 7 bass in 1.5 -2.5 lb range and I foul hooked and boated a large carp, the drag system, 30 lb braid and getting on the trolling motor to keep him near as I used the 7' Falcon rod to wear him down was the ticket to boat him, so I could retrieve the trap caught in his side.I caught 3 on a pig n jig, missed a few runners, they tore the claws off the craw. Not a great day, but I was happy.P N J

PNJ

I have found that the addition of feathers on topwaters is a plus IMHO. The pop r's some of my spook jr's and a few others. One bait that I am having GREAT success on is a jerk n sam that a GOOD friend sent to me. Added feathers to it and gotta say that it is catching more fish than the spook jr's. Was throwing that HUGE high roller jerk bait 2 weeks ago and the bass where nailing it like there was no tommoorrow. Another bait a buddy of mine sent me. To date that bait has only produced on that day. I feel like it will shine again in the fall when the fish are after bigger bait.
