Default another engine question for new boat

I am ready to pull the trigger on a triton explorer 17. The question is, I was thinking I would get the optimax 90 for it, and was wondering if it would hurt anything to go ahead and get the 115 instead of the 90. The boat says recomended is 50-90, so does that mean that I CANT legaly put the 115 on it. I mean the 90 and 115 way the same, and the 115 will not push the boat nearly as fast as what some of the other boats are going.
Would there even be a real benefit to stepping up to that size?
Whats your opinions. Thanks

1. Insurance. I don't think you can insure a boat over powered. 2. If you try to fish in a tournament you wouldn't be able to use your boat. 3. It is a safety thing.

But I've also seen an 18' boat with a 250 on the back of it that was rated for a 175. I think the boat was in South America....

But for insurance purposes unless the cowlings are interchangeable I'd stick to the 90
