The concept is cool but my concern with it is this.....the more bells and whistles something has the better chance there is for something to fail. Believe you me, I am always looking for the next best thing. I might not always buy it but new ideas and concepts are always interesting to me. I would want to hear of someone using this real and NOT having problems over time before I would get one.

The vid was interesting too......the voice was nuts.

I say it's just a gimmick! I saw some thing like, it was an attachment that you had to the rod, and thread the line through it, it DEFIANTLY would work better than that thing! I also think it would have more line twists than an other spinning reel!

Does it come with an accessory that wipes your butt for you too? Sheesh..."working" the lure is part of what I enjoy about fishing. Developing the ability to entice a finicky bass into slamming an artifical is the whole point. If the reel does it for you, heck...I'd find a new hobby.

I see one mechanical problems with this reel to begin with. That eccentricity in the spool is going to play havoc with your spool axle, as it the bail assembly loads and unloads side to side with every revolution. This will be due to the bail roller not moving to match the point where the line starts winding onto the spool. I pretty much guarantee this will take a couple of years off of the life of this reel.

They could have alleviated this problem by using a pair of elliptical gears to drive the bail assembly. The bail revolving speed would change instead of the winding radius. No different than if you were actually changing your retrieve speed manually. Add a lever to switch between constant ratio and variable ratio outputs and you've got the same functionality as the Strike Tech, but a more robust design that has no more durability issues than any other reel.

Good...now that I've over-analyzed something, I feel much better for the day.

Wouldnt elliptical gears make it wobble while you reel in a fish as well?

I say it needs disraeli gears. (shameless cream reference)

Dumbest idea ever btw. Actually, I think it almost beats the nerf gun fishing rod.

Nope. While an elliptical gear isn't circular, it is a two-lobed eccentric, and thus it is balanced about its axis, while the offset spool of the Strike Tech is a single-lobe eccentric. Now, I can't tell by the photo, but it is entirely possible that they put a counterweight inside the spool skirt to offset the wobble, but it still won't help the unbalanced forces on the bail roller, which are not weight-based, but geometry-based.

Here's a link to a good pic of an elliptical gearset for anyone who has trouble visualizing it.

I misunderstood you, WTL. I see now what you meant. Yes, it woud, however, that's what the lever would be for. When you set the hook, you would just take a half a second, and switch it. Picture something like an anti-reverse lever.

might as well go ahead and add a feature thats reels the line up for you as well all you have to do is cast, hold the rod, and set the hook!!!!

That is too funny, Bassin...I remember Roland Martin hawking those. Honestly though...the only thing I would use to catch fish with that has a pump action...is my 12-gauge slug gun. Brings new meaning to the term "sight fishing".
