You can purchase weedless tube heads, the ones with a weedguard; the other way is to T-rig them.

use the jig head with a 60 degree eye hole...as opposed to one at 90 degrees.

I have experimented w/ weedless tubes but I am not certain if I am rigging it correctly. To begin with, I don't like the eye of the hook sticking out in front, I prefer it to be on top (so I get more a vertical fall) but can't seem to get this set-up with weedless rig. Anyway, I am interested to hear the members' advice. |

Well, you have a couple options. A weedless jighead is one. If you are using a tube with a solid head you can T-rig it like a worm. If you are using a hollow tube like a Zoom tube you can get a tube weight to insert into the tube, but I prefer to just use a bell sinker:
Get a small bell sinker and insert it into the tube with the brass ring on the top pointed towards the head of the tube, and push it all the way in. Then rig it like you would a T-rig but make sure the point of the hook goes through the loop. Here it is without the tube: And rigged: The bell sinker holds the hook in place and eliminates the need for an external weight.

That's what I thought. I'd like to be able to take credit for it, but I learned it from a guy that guides in North Texas.

Just T-Rig the tube and then skin hook the point..its as weedless as can be. I know for sure that this works very well with Strike King bleeding tubes. The plastic is good and solid and it doesn't rip easily.
I like the idea of a bell sinker on the hook...beats my shoving split shots in the tube, lol. |

Texpose them. Works great. As far as weighting 90% of the time I dont use a weight. Tends to slow up the action of the bait. I want the bait falling naturally. Yes it is a slower method but it produces. One bit of advise....anyone using plastics outta give the weightless trick a try. I fish alot of brush hogs, worms etc..etc.. weightless and the bite ratio has gone up. There are many reasons why this works. One being you work an area more thouroughly, a bass has a better chance to see you bait etc etc.

I have been off the site for several weeks due to a talladega trip and then my wife going in and out of the hospital. It is great to be back on here! I saw a great weigh in for the FLW tourney at Kentucky Lake yesterday and look forward to going back today.
Here is my question: If you fish them (tubes) texas rigged, do you peg the weights? Seems like when I don't peg the weights, I stay hung with the weights in cover. Do you think pegging the weight decreases the action/activity of the lure? |

I agree w/ the fishing them weightless, the difference is huge. At the top of a fall if it's weightless it has a chance for the strands to fully open up and fall more naturally.

It depends-if I'm are fishing in cover, i.e. flooded trees I do-keeps the bait from falling down one side of the cover and the sinker on the other. If you are getting hung up I'd say peg it.

reb,
a nice variation of your design is to use the Tender Tube brand, the head is filled with plastic to let you bounce off objects, just that much easier |

It will do that some times with thin tubes. I used to get the Butch Ward tubes by the five pound bag but can not find them any more. The dragon flipping tube is to darn thick. BP tender tubes are a good compromise.
