Default live well repair

in every small stratos/javlin/hydrosport under 17 foot i have seen. the live wells are set up almost excatly the same.the live well is found in the front of the boat. a lenth of pvc pipe is pushed down into the drain.
like this

to empty the water out you simply pull the pipe out and it drains

after a lot of in and out the plastic wears down causing the live well to leak out water.a frisky fish can knock it out easily.. all of the boats mentioned above that i have seen do NOT have a shut off valve. there is just a hose running from the drain to the back of the boat near the aerator. it passes thru the stern of the boat with a simple flush pvc flange.no scupper just and open pipe end.in fact i have had the over flow pipe knocked out by back wash as i come down off plane..

thinking ok i don't want to tear out the entire live well to put a shut off valve in-cause it is a b!tch to get to-in the back of the boat this drain hose is vizable for about a foot as it passes the bilge pumps/aerator. it is easy to get to-yeah right!!!.

that being said i aimed to put a manual shut off valve in this area. no problem right? WRONG!! i bought a manual shut off valve it has 3/4" in take /outlet pipes you clamp it on..-$30 btw-they make two kinds of shut off valves ranger and everyone else. on my lund the drain was 3/4" pipe as it was on both of my previous big boats-bait tank drains actually-

so when i cut the hose and i will be damned if the drain hose on this stratos is not 1 1/8" -add string of favored four letter words here- to add a shut off valve on it i had to go play in the pvc piping at lowes. to find a shut off valve that big..-i actually had to dreimel the inside of the drain hose to get it to fit tightly. smeared on a good coating of cement and clamped it real tight..

easy right ?? not... this is a view thru the access of the shut off valve...

the over flow pipe will still leak but i wont lose the water..

Know what you mean Zook. I'm the only one in the Family that can fit in our bilge. And then some of the hatches they have on a boat are size a rediculous.

yeah i did both on the exit flange and in the live well. the exit flange plug went bye bye some wheres in badin lake. the live well drain plug was blown out when i come off plane the back wash knocked it out.. i tried a bunch of differant stuff afore i resorted to this measure..

I have 2 livewells like that in mine.I have the front plugged with an expanding plug.It was dry when installed.I can see where the back would blow out though coming off a fast plane.I don't have enough power to worry about that.

Can you get the new gromets?I haven't seen them that i know of.
I have a problem with the well overfilling and getting the back deck wet.Do you think cutting some of the pvc off would help or not allow enough water to enter the well?Good luck and keep me posted on the fix.
