Default Bait monkey and a few bass!

bait monkey

Ok so I we and my dad went to gander to get a few things, but we walked out with a little more! We planed on getting some floating lizards, some beads, and two new tackle boxes for hooks and blue gill stuff! But we walked out with a bit more! Since my bro needed a new rod/reel, I helped him pick one out that was around 80$ I told him you could get an ok pflueger president combo that that much! So we found a good one, and since he didn't have any cash he would have to save up for one later. Since I didn't have a spinning reel, I got one for 30 bucks, a Shakespeare inspinity combo M action rod with a cork handle, and got some 10lb big game to put on it! My dad also needed a spinning reel so he got an Okuma Avenger for 80 bucks. After we found a rod for my bro, and me and my old man got one, we looked for the lizards and boxes we came here in the first place for! We got the boxes than looked around for floating lizards but didn't find any, so we just got some zoom lizards, than we got some beads for C-rigs. Than we just looked around, got some peca craws, screw lock shaky heads (1/16oz - 1/4oz), and a finesse jig. Since they didn't have floating lizards, we looked for some steyro form floats to get the lizards floating. We looked and didn't find any so we went to see if there was any in the salt water section, didn't find any there either. However, we did get some storm swimbaits on sale for 1.95. They also had some leaches for the same price, we we got some of those too!

So after we fed the monkey, we went home for an early dinner of fish n chips, after we went fishing some place new.

few bass

So here's a few pics of the place:

I didn't get many pics of the place, but it's about 25 acres.. in my book, it a lake!

I started with a 10" worm, my dad started with a spinnerbait, and my older brothers reel broke on the first cast, so now he's learning to use my old bait caster! My little bro started with a little crankbait. I got one bass, but missed it. After a wile we moved spots... to the other side of the lake, my dad caught a snake head after few casts to the place in the second pic.

After that my dad got a hit on a spinnerbait, but missed it.

than my little bro put on a shaky head and caught one right off the bat! I was not around to take a pic since the camera was in my pocket. When I walked back to change lures, my little bro said he got one a worm, I asked how he rigged it, he rigged it with a shaky head and a trick worm. So I put that on, second cast my line tightened and started moving off, I set the hook to a nice little bass, did a nice jump and I landed him, and took a pic.

It was a dink, but felt real good since I hadn't caught bass in a few weeks! Shorty after that the Jr caught a one about the same size on a shaky head, and I took a pic, about the same size, but a bit bigger!

After long time no caught one, than I caught one on a shaky head wading about the same size as the first, but when I got it close I grabbed the line to land him and he plopped off! I count it as caught though! Than five minutes before we left, Jr again caught one, about 10" when I got out of the water to get the camera, to take a pic, he had already thrown it back! Sorry about that guys!

Anyway, I had a lot of fun, didn't catch a lot, but still caught two! felt real good since I hadn't caught one in weeks! The place has big bass potential, has good cover submerged and emergent cover, also has deep water assessable though out the lake with shallow water near by!

Thanks for reading!

hahaha, funny story behind that one! To put it in a bag in the back of the truck, after fishing for three hours we thought it would be dead, so fist think we did when we got home was take the bag out of the truck up plop the fish into the sink! The thing was still flopping around just as it was when we caught it! And just for the he77 of it, we put it in the fish tank! After about 10 minutes we asked each other how we where gonna get it out! I said I'd finger it out tomorrow. So the next day, my mom was cleaning the walls by the fish tank () and I reached down into the tank to see if I could noodle the fish out! The fish jumped out of the tank onto her see screamed like mad, while I laughed like mad! ! And that's how I got it out!

And ya, where gonna eat it!

I thought snakeheads had teeth?.? I've heard they can tear a fishery up, too? Don't know if it is true, just grapevine talk.

Thats the great thing about florida, when you fly from the north like we do, I'm always amazed at how many bodies of water there are, anywhere from a canal to nice size 25 acre lakes. We have a house in Rotundo West that has a lake almost the same size about twenty feet from the back door, but tons of no fishing signs around it(its on a golf course and our screened in pool is about four feet from a fairway).. I noticed some of the nicer mobile home parks had beautiful lakes like that too, and no one hardly fishes them. I was going to sneak over and nite fish the one by our house that we rent but was skeeered of gaters LOL. Its also nice to see some of the guys here get to take dear ol dad out and brothers to fish, who could go wrong raising thier kids doing that? btw next pic smile dammit rofl

I'm quite sure that all the photos in this thread purported to be Snakeheads are, just different varieties.

They may be able to destroy a fishery, but seem to be working out to be a complimentary species (ref). They should never be released if caught, however. In Florida, at the least, they are illegal to possess as aquarium fish (some smaller varieties are quite ornamental), or even alive.

Within their indigenous Asian regions, they are considered a delicacy, and are said to - I kid you not - taste like chicken.

However, this delicacy status may be due to pragmatic considerations more than their actual quality as table fare.

Since Snakeheads can breath air, they keep fresh a very long time - weeks in just a wet sack, for instance. This also may help explain why they have so easily transported to become an invasive species.

They do have a serious set of teeth, by the way, and this coupled with their head shape leaves little doubt as to how they got their name.

The fish he has pictured is not a snakehead it's mouth is the wrong shape and it's fins are in the wrong place . with the fishes mouth being opened like it is in the picture we would be able to see it's teeth .

Hard to tell since I can't get a real good look at his dorsal, tail or head, but I think you got a bowfin. Or dogfish as it's called around here. Or to be precise ^^%%&&^%& DOGFISH!!!!!!

Mallen, I thought it might be a bow fish too, but after checking it out closer, I don't think it is. That fish has a square tailfin, whereas a bowfin has a sort of droopy round tail. I'm still searching the web like mad trying to figure out what the heck that thing is. It almost looks like a sauger or saugeye, but it being south Florida, I know it can't be.

I know it's not a bow fin, I've caught them before, and it's not it, so has my dad, and the pectoral fins are in the wrong place! I thought it kinda looked like a sauger... but wrong region! When it was in the tank, it turned with the same color.

I don't know what kinda fish it is but i am positive it is not a snakehead . I wish I could copy the image and use that as the base for my search but that ain't gonna happen

It would also have a continuous fin on it's stomach if it was a snakehead .

BB,

I think you have a Wolffish, Hoplias malibaricus there. It goes by the name if Trahira in the Amazon. I have found literature that says yes, they have been found in Florida before. I think you need to take that fish to your local fish and wildlife agency. They need to know you found it. It isn't supposed to be there. It is a hyper-aggressive predator that will hurt the natives.

The 2nd pic doesn't show it, but the tail looks rounded, although not droopy in the 1st pic.
The color markings aren't even close to the bow fin i caught up here last summer, although that doesn't mean much.
I had a sneaky suspicion that it was a bow fin early on, but have yet to see a pic of one with those markings. So I VERY easily could be wrong on that one

By golly, I do believe that http://media.photobucket.com/image/c...f-Fish-051.jpg appears to be the correct species, although it is certainly very similar in behavior and appearance. I have caught these fish in Florida for many years, although not very often. Some get very large, near 3 feet, and they are very aggressive and do put up a dogged fight, but lack stamina to keep it up long.

The pic of one I saw looks nothing like it, although I only saw one pic of a Trahira.

Now that looks much closer to the fish bassboss caught, than the trahira pic on florida's wildlife website shows
Could be major kudos to you and nofear
