Hey Bruce, the cabin rates did go up.. and you are right, their website has yet to be updated.

The cabin that I'm sharing had a rate increase of $6 a day. I went from $169
to $175 a day.

Good for you, Don! Hopefully they don't catch it.

Also, I heard that the slip rental went up too.. big slips went up to $19 from $15 per day.

I don't have a problem with the cabin increase, but $19/day for a slip is HIGH.

The smaller slips are $15 per day.

I've got an announcement to make.

Earlier today I heard from Bassfishin.com member, Elnutsmalljaws. And Elnut has offered to ask his good friend, Stephen Headrick of the Punisher Lure Company of Celina Tennessee, if he would be willing to make a visit to our Get-Together, and share with us a group seminar on "How To Catch More Smalljaws". Thank's for all your help, Elnut!

Mark, if you can make that happen, more power to you. I had the man tell me to my face he would be there, and then not show up.

Bryce, I believe that Headrick's "no show" was because of a last minute business meeting with the people at Bass Pro Shop.. and yes, I agree he should have called to let us know of his absence, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt...remember, you had planned all of this during business hours...I'm sure he would of been there if he could.

This aerial photo gives us a good idea of how expansive and secluded this lake really is.

The marina of Cedar Hill can be seen just to the left and below the center of this photo.

Cabin announcement..

To all of those planning on attending the next Zookerfest, I wanted to mention that the cabin (#0) I've reserved with Bcklash and Bassinbandit, still has an one bed available, and one sleeper sofa. We will all just split the cost when we get there. ($175 day)

If your bringing a boat, and you want a boat slip, you will have to call the resort and reserve them yourself. thanks

Mark, any room at the inn for me? I'd be happy to send you my part of the deposit.

Alright Bryce, like I said there's still room for 2 more, since you called it, now there's just room for one. I appreciate your deposit offer, but there's no need. I know you are good for it!

So is the place we are staying on the lower end of the lake towards the dam? Bet the water is vodka clear. Might bring some extra flouro and finesse gear.

Thanks. I'll mark it on my calendar, but can't commit yet. We'll see how the first of the year goes......

This past May, the water was unbelievably clear. I could easily see bottom 15-20 feet down. This muddy water boy wasn't used to that, at all. I actually bought some angel hair fluoro (8 pound test) just for the trip.

Bill, refer to Woody's pic of the lake, assuming the top of the pic is NORTH, the resort lies just north of the long peninsula to to north of the dam on the western bank of the main lake. Water was very clear but had a lot of pollen on it last year.

This map better illustrates the location of Cedar Hill Resort.

Cedar Hill Resort is located east-northeast of the dam on the main lake body.

And to give you a idea on size and distance: It's approximately 1 mile from Cedar Hills Marina, south the southern tip of the long thin peninsula, and then from the tip to the dam you would be looking at a little over a mile.

Gotcha.

Since I'm gonna be in the yak, and we look to be on the main lake body, how wide is the lake there? What are the possibilities of it becoming rough water say with a 15 mph wind?

Of course if it does get windy, I can put the yak on top of the car and put in at any slough, but I'm curious. I do like the proximity to the tailwater.

Billy, I've got a lake map at the house I can check later, but to give you an idea about distances, I looked at the lake on Bing maps. If you draw a straight line due east from the point at Cedar Hill, the opposite bank is a bit over 2000 feet away. Going south-southeast, to the end of that long point, is around 5000 feet.
We didn't get much wind while we were there, but I can't really see it becoming whitecaps or anything like that, even with a stiff breeze. It's a possibility, I guess, but I don't think it would get too bad.
There's not many access points to the lake itself. The banks are extremely steep, so there's not many roads, paved or gravel, that get anywhere close to the water.

OK, I can manage that. The new kayak has a little bit higher sides, I can handle rougher water than before. I probably could make it home even in light whitecaps if I had to, I just wouldn't want to try and fish.

Looking over the map, it appears the cumberland river is pretty close by, and a town, I'm sure I could float that if I had to. Or see whatever is in the obey.

I'll probably hang around middle tennessee after the get-together is over, fishing and camping a few different locals in the region.

Hey Billy, when your not fishing from the kayak, you are welcome to the spare seat on my boat. I'd be willing to give you your kayak a tow while on the lake too, if you need it. We will have numerous options to pick from. It's gonna be fun!

WTL - Long Branch to the north holds smallies and is reachable by kayak, as is Indian Cr. to the south - good fishing in there. The opposite side of the lake from Cedar Hill is not far with several coves to fish. Phone service was fine for me (Verizon) so if the weather gets blowing I'm willing to come get you as I'm sure the other guys with boats would be.
