First Baitcasting Reel {help}
I agree with the fact that you get what you pay for, but can any of you suggest a baitcasting reel (low-profile, please) for under 50 bucks that will last years and years and do a good job. I will take care of it Bass fishing, one that will do good for all lures.
Here are some that I have found. Let me know if you think that any are worthy. 1. http://www.cabelas.co.nz/cabelas/en/...rd-item.jhtml? 2. http://www.cabelas.co.nz/cabelas/en/...rd-item.jhtml? 3. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...3A4145%3A76842 There are more Shakespeares at Wal-mart, one of which has 6-bearings and it very smooth and fast to reel. It may be called the Alpha, I forget. Thanks for your help, DP |

What Hula said. Extremes are all I use, and would recommend them to anyone wanting a good baitcaster, and they are on sale for $50 right now.

I'm with the others. You really be missing out if you didn't get one of the extremes! Great deal and really great real. Although I'm hoping the new Pro Qualifiers go on sale for $50 because the updated ones look pretty nice!

Re: First Baitcasting Reel {help}
Thanks guys I really really appreciate your help.
Just wondering, have any of you ever tried any of the Shakespeare reels? What'd you think? I will most likely end up with the Extreme reel. Thanks. |

Re: First Baitcasting Reel {help}
DP, I have a few Shakespeares. I like their spinning reels but am not too impressed with their baitcasters-mostly low-end. I think you will be real happy with the extremes.
While we are at it, why not join the forum? We have some good folks and a lot of laughs, and even get a little fishin' info shared ;D |

Re: First Baitcasting Reel {help}
we had a post a while back on this same subject.My answer was to start out with a round Abu reel(5500C3).It doesn't have all the whistles and bells of the newer low profile reels,and you will get quite a few backlashes,but when you master it you'll be able to handle ANY baitcaster on the market.
But seeing you want a low profile reel,take these guys advice and get an Extreme ..Bought a few on the suggestion from these fellas(Thanks Reb!)..Picked up 3 more recently when they went on sale.They're simply a good smooth reel... |

Nothing more then to agree. I own three extreme baitcasters, and my 2 spinning reels are Shakesspeare. Wont find any complaints yet from me about them. 8)

Re: First Baitcasting Reel {help}
This is the only Bait Caster I use:
Pflueger President I know we all have our favorites and we could argue all day, but this is one fine product! I have fought big bass (and lots of leetle ones too Â*;D), pike and musky and the drum still turns like their is no gravity. At $110., its a bargin. No substitute for good equipment! JMO Chip Â* |

Re: First Baitcasting Reel {help}
chip was right there is no substitute for quailty equipment. regaurdless who makes it. most reels wont last more than 5 years that is with regular maintence.- please note i said most- i got a bunch of quantum mag gears that have been rebuilt at least twice the reel pnj has fixed can not be rebuilt -it's that old-.
before every one swamps me with "i got a -fill in blank- that is -blank-years old" i wish to say this #1 older reels are better and older lasting because they have more metal inside the reel. even if it is aluminum it is still stronger an last longer than the plastic which a lot of the newer reels have in them. zooker

Re: First Baitcasting Reel {help}
I bought an extreme reel last year and I still got it. Thats a rare thing since it doesn't have Daiwa written on it some where.I really do like the extreme reel alot, I make a point of taking it fishing when the more expensive reels sit at home. P N J
