I use an off set hook, no real reason behind it other than its what I've been fishing with since I was young. Father seems to like it a good bit and it works for him.

I do the same thing, but I tie a snell knot with #14 mono. Good trick.

I very much prefer the EWGs for just about everything aside from skipping. It is easier to skin hook or "Texspose" your plastic with them.

My first choice is always Gamakatsu offset "J" bend worm hooks. I rarely use widegap hooks unless I am thowing weightless Salty Sinking Stick baits (Senko style).
