Hi Folks,
I used to do a lot of carp fishing when I was growing up. Six or seven of us would walk the river from the deep end to the shallow, chasing the fish as we went. We chased up differet kinds of fish but were only after the carp. Once the fish were in shallow water, we would rock or club them to death. We would take them to the local butcher shop and sell them for 10 cents a pound. He would even clean them, we didn't have to do it. This was during the summer, during the winter we ran a trap line for muskrats. Sold them to the same butcher for 50 cents for the meat, he would give us the pelts back and we would sell them to a coat maker, for 2.50 each.
Best bait we used for Carp
Corn: Buy two cans, punch holes in one can and sink it, to chum the area. Check your local laws.
Boiled potato: Keep them hard so they stay on the hook.
Corn meal mixed with Strawberry Jello
White Bread, mixed with a little water to make a wet dough.
Never caught a carp on any live bait.
Hooked a 12 pounder in the tail with a musky spoon on a 5'6" Ugly Stick. My very young son got the line boiled up, so I put the biggest "hook" on it to take out the coils. Cast the thing out and on the way back in hooked the carp in the tail. Took about 15 min to land the thing without breaking the line. Didn't want to lose the lure either.
Put the fish in a small swiming pool and watched the black lab chase it around for awhile. Put it back un harmed.
Same day caught a Large Mouth that was about as long and my hand is wide. When I closed my hand over it, his nose was by my thumb and his tail near my pinky.

I know how long ago it was. Just over 40 years ago. The ages of the guys was around 7 through 10. Later we shot them with arrows. We got the money for the bows and arrows by picking up beer and soda bottles out of the river and returning them for deposit. Also called the state when we found hundreds of dead fish. Traced the kill back to a drug company. They were forced to clean up their act. Once the river was inproved the fishing came back.
In fact my older brothers caught bass in that river but my friends and I never did. Water was too bad. Years later my son not only caught bass, but strippers, trout, and even sea run browns.
Oh just for your information, I am proud of the way we "harvested" A rock or stick to the head has been the accepted way of harvesting fish for years.
Perhaps you have a better way, if so please let us all know.
How do the guys on tv kill the fish they are planning to eat? Do they die in the livewell. Perhaps they leave them on the dock untill dead.
You've called me names, fine now do something constructive and tell me how you would kill a fish ( or cow for that matter ) that you were going to eat

Forgot to mention how we conditioned the carp before they were eaten. The first fish we cooked were muddy tasting. An angler coming by saw us and suggested that before cooking the carp next let it clean itself in a tub.
We caught another one and put it in my bathtub for about 3 days. Changing the water each day. We fed him corn meal. This was supposed to purge the mud taste out of the fish. After about 3 days we clubbed him on the head and cooked him on the outside grill. He did taste better. Have tried this with catfish caught in a farm pond and seems to work.
There is another way called planking. Heard about it years ago and can be used for other fish. Just don't remember it all. I think the fish was nailed to a pine plank and proped up near a camp fire, cooked until done.
Oh retarded or not we had 2 other bathrooms. The one we used was down in the basement and used by the kids playing outside. My mother had my father install it because she was tired of the kids messing up the house with muddy and wet shoes.

I done some research on how an animal was killed 40 years ago. And a NORMAL PERSON living back then would not ROCK or CLUB an animal to get it to die, unless that person was a neanderthal that lived in a cave. and 40 years ago would not be the case.

you moron, you're the one who should be beaten with a rock or club. you don't even have the brains to get a freaking username. if the fish is going to die, who gives a heck about how it dies? the kids were 7-10 years old for crying out loud. do you think they should be running down the river with filet knives in their hands?

Ok genius this is the last and finial time with this line of stupidity.
Other then calling someone names, how would you kill a fish that you were about to eat?
How are the fish caught by the guys on TV that are placed in a live well to be eaten later killed?
How is the cow killed that supplies the burger you eat at that fast food place you go to before the fishing trip?
Perhaps you don’t read English so I will type this slowly so you can understand it.
We chased the fish into shallow water.
Walked up to the fish.
Picked it up, sometimes two people were needed to lift the fish
Someone hit it on the head with a rock or a stick
Fish died
Brought fish to butcher.
He paid us 10 cents a pound, before cleaning
He cleaned the fish and sold it in his store
Now call me all the names you like, just answer the above questions.
Perhaps you carve up a living fish or cow. Yeah that is humane!
Now go away you

We've had to carve up live fish before. It sucks. They were in the ice box all day and still alive when we got to the tables. Even when I was done fileting one of them he was still biting my finger and flapping the fins that were left on him.

OMG! thats it, i accept it, im a failure fisherman. if 7-10 year old boys can actually find carp and grab it, and i cant catch them with equipment, im horrible. a month in india of fishing, not a single carp over 3 pounds. only 3 carp in total... wow. god im a horrible fisherman! are there carp in NJ? if there are, im either going to catch one by the end of this year or give up on fishing
