First boat!!
I just bought my first boat, a 14' fishmaster jon, with a 36lb minn kota troller, and a 3.5 hp evinrude, thats not on here right now. She has two seat, and we'll put a lpatform, and a 3rd one on the front this winter. We plan on getting it carpeted, and a fish finder put on. Congrats on the boat. Doesnt need to have the biggest engine or whatever, so long as you get to use it. All boats catch fish.
Cant wait to see pics, Offtopic- I am looking for an old jon no one wants for a small river near me that no one really smallmouth fishes(only trout fishers i have seen). I was thinking a lil 10 ft or 12 ft would be perfect, can throw it right in the bed.

Well went out today in it, and the battery died as soon as I got my first bite! Its an old battery anyway. Everything else went fine, really liked it. After that, we went and fished from the bank, and my dad caught his pb, 4.5lbs.

Thanks. If you can see the tan house with the Tacoma in front, that guy has an awesome 18ft lund.
We just about bought that brick house when it was built. |

Nice rig...don't forget to buy several bass angler type life jackets, and wear them when you are running
ya never know if you or others may slip and hit head on the boat, plus its the law here and the park rangers are always stopping people checking.. but more importantly, if you are in a isolated area like a gravel pit, I'd wear it all the time, plus get floatation seating for the boat, you can toss them to others that fall in. The lifejackets that keep your head propped up in the water are even better. |

What type battery do you have? When you only have a TM on there, the power can wear down quickly. I suggest 2 batteries, one for getting where you are going, and one for getting back. If your 1st battery runs out of juice before you get there, at least you know you can get back that way.
Or get that 3.5 operational, but that aint going to be too fast. Still, you will be able to catch as many bass as any of us in the big bass boats. I went with a TM only back about 3 or 4 years ago and really learned a lot and cleaned up on the fish because I had to concentrate more on specific areas. In larger boats people have a tendency to become spot oriented, whereas in small less mobile boats you have to get good with the water your fishing. Another suggestion, look for ramps around creeks. Don't bother fishing large mainlake sections, but rather fish the smaller creeks cause in a good creek that feeds into a reservoir you often can find anything you need...deep water, brush, current, spawning flats, grass. Here is an example. This is a satellite pic of one of my favorite creeks from back when I was stuck with only a TM. I labelled many but not all of the best spots on this creek, and I could cover the whole thing with my setup. It gave me the opportunity to pattern the fish, and fish deep if they werent shallow or vise versa. There are creeks in your neck of the woods that offer the same diversity, its just a matter of finding them.

Uhhh, JB, why doesn't that guy thatguy appear to have any fingers? Or is that a new lifesaving technique? Like an alternative hold to this standard one?
