I am having trouble pitching with my baitcaster (lots of Backlashes) Is this a technique I should generally use with just a spinning rod? Or do I need to losen my brakes? When I pitch out the line jerks back because the breaks kick in. Any suggestions? Thanks guys!!

I turn my brake down really low and really thumb the spool to prevent backlash

Which line are you using? Fluorocarbon backlashes more than mono or braid. Also, make sure you're fishing a bait that's heavy enough to pull the line off the spool fast enough to stay ahead of the revolving spool.

Nick - when you make the quietest entry possible then you know you're doing it right, there isn't one right way to do either.

Will - start with 1/2 oz weight or heavier first and then go lighter with the weight as you get better. set your breaks so that the lure falls slowly to the floor and when it hits it doesn't backlash.
