I've had great success this year working a #8 X Rap over shallow weeds with long pauses. When that bite died, I've tied on a 3 1/2 inch soft swimbait retrieved slowly with a pause every now and then which has produced some fish but no where at the frequency of the X Rap.

I've tried several soft swimbaits including the Strike King line which is way too stiff to have good tail and body movement when retrieving very slowly. The Yami saltwater swimbaits work great and hold up pretty well. Also the Bearpaw line of soft swimbaits have great action but tear very easily.
