DO NOT MESS WITH THE TRANSOM!!! I'm sorry man, but this sounds like a terrible idea. I see where you are going with the design, but that will not hold the thrust of a 200hp engine pushing on your boat (NOFEAR help me out here) A 2x8 piece of wood that runs the length of the entire transom will not help reinforce the engine, it may work for a short period of time, but that is it... I would be scared to death to be anywhere near that thing... I've seen the results of engines that are put on bad transoms or not put on correctly altogether...you know where most of them end up? In the boat!! Maybe if you're lucky it won't land on you..I can't imagine anything worse than a 400lb engine landing on me, never mind the fact that it has a meat grinder attached to one end...just sayin'
