Default boat trailer tongue too long

I just bought a new boat and trailer, that's good but the trailer is about two feet too long to fit in my garage. I have been told that there is a kit I can buy that will allow me to cut the tongue and weld some kind if hinge on it to swing it away while in the garage and pin it straight when pulling. Any one heard of any thing like this?

Thanks, Mike

Mike,
Several of the major boat companies that build thier own trailers have this feature. I know that Ranger and
Skeeter does. You might check with some of the dealers and look at this set up, take pictures and measurements. Any good welder can make this conversion for your boat, and you can re-do the wiring by installing a plug at the tongue hinge yourself. The problem comes if your trailer has trailer brakes. If so, I would forget the idea.
Some of the trailers have a hinge that folds back, others have a slide in unit that detatches with two threaded locking pins. My previous Ranger had the slide in unit, and it worked great.

go to a good welder. he can make a pivoting trailer tongue for you. he will have a pin that will fit in place when you want to pull the boat, and he will have it so the pin will be removed and the tongue will pivot to the side. most will gain you about 2'.

or you could let the motor down straight instead of being up on the toter.

For about $300 you can get a swing away tongue installed. Most boat makers trailers now offer that feature on their boat trailers. Even my Smaller Ranger has one. Most good welders or trailer shops can do the work for you. My old boat was modified to fit my wifes garage. (Her house, so must be her garage.) ;D
