topwater spook issue
I love to fish a spook but lately having a heck of a problem. My line is getting tangled up in the treble hooks on the retrieve about half the time and this is very frustrating. I am using polymar knot and monofilament line.
suggestions please. |

Syd, what # test line are you using? I personally have found more success in using slightly heavier monofilament line. It is stiffer, and doesn't seem to foul up in the hooks quite as much as lighter line. Just a thought, hopefully this will help.

The confusion I have is that it sounds like you've thrown spooks a lot before without a problem.
So did you change something, line, faster tip pole or something else that you didn't use before? Anyways, sometimes you can try a 'one' size smaller hook on the front treble. Had a similar challenge using braid line. Smaller front treble worked....better. You may still get some line hook but it helped lower the frequency of it happening.

I have same problem with the gunfish but using hefty braid so stripers dont steal it,heavier mono will let it walk better and not catch as much.15lb
