Default advice please

Hi everyone,

I have just found this site and would like to ask for some advice...

Taking my 12 year old son fishing on a friends boat tommorrow on Lake Wylie in South Carolina. Problem is it's been almost 100 degres here in the day lately and I don't know how that affects the fishing.

What should we fish for? Catfish ? I have some chickin livers which I here works well.

Bass? If so how deep do you tipicly look to fish for Bass?

I have heard that Crappy aren't bighting good in hot weather...

Any good tips to a not so good fishermen would help.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

Chicken livers are always a good bet for catfish.

Bass-depends on when you are going. If you go early topwaters in the shallows can really produce, as can soft plastic baits fished weightless. Once the sun gets up this time of year fish do one of two things: They either get under cover-surface weed mats or boat docks for example-or head for deeper water, so I'd recommend moving out of the shallows and fish the weed edges. If you have boat docks fishing around and under them with soft plastics are a good bet. Spinnerbaits can also produce well.

There are a couple of guys from that neck of the woods who can give you much better info on that lake than I can-hopefully one of them will post, but a bass is a bass, so I hope this helps a little .

Theyre Excellent! just put a good size sinker on the line to sink the bait and attach a cork, then wait and youll have tons of catfish in no time!

Sweet, thanks for the advice. Now you say use a cork, I don't have any slip type corks so would it be better without a cork and sink to the bottom with the weight about 2 ft from the hook?

I'd just fish it on the bottom-cats are pretty much bottom feeders so I'd just let it sit there with no bobber.

i usually fish for catfish weightless, the bait is enough weight to get it out far enough for me. but when i use sinkers i usually do a carolina rig type thing

wylie is a strange lil lake. the bass like weird colors like metholite, bannana, swirled tiki sticks, bright purple..

if i was fishing wyilie i would do it very early or late at night.. you are right the temps today hit 104 here.. it is going to be VERY hot. just remember sun screen and gatorade.. make sure he has a hat of some kind.. night crawlers 24" under a cork fished along the bank near grass will get him a bunch of warmouths or white perch.. if i was bass fishing wylie right now i would head up in to the cawtabawa river..
